Back-to-school is an exciting time for many; however, it is also a time when school-related injuries can run rampant. For example, a backpack that is too heavy or worn incorrectly is a leading cause of preventable back pain in children and teens.

Itā€™s important to remember that a backpack's load should be no more than 10% to 15% of the wearer's body weight. The wearer should adjust both shoulder straps every time, place heavier books closest to the back, and, if possible, make frequent locker stops throughout the day to lighten the load.
