Stitch with Joseph Kibler.
Happy Disability Pride Month!
What do you say if people are trying to “help” you but it’s not actually helpful?
Here are three boundary phrases for mobility aid users:
1: It is actually safer if I get myself up.
2: Even though it looks difficult to you, it’s actually how I need to do this.
3: Just because it might take me a little longer doesn’t mean I don’t want to do it.
I’m sharing lots of disability related boundary phrases this month so come follow along!
There’s also a whole disability chapter in my book Say The Thing. Published by Hay House, the book is available in ebook, audiobook, and paperback.
Visual Description Written by Kami:
Kami is laying in bed holding the camera up above her. She is a fat white woman with short sandy hair and a white tank top.
Next Joseph standing with his red crutches on his arms. He is a thin white man with short dark brown hair and black frame glasses.
Then Joseph in a wheelchair with a bag of laundry on his lap. He is turned sideways to speak to the camera and the angle highlights the yellow spokes on his chair.
Finally Kami again still laying in bed. The pillows are orange and the lamp is on her right side casting a shadow across her face.
