St. James Fire Department to Hold 25th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

The St. James Fire Department invites the community to join us for our annual September 11th Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11, at 6:00 PM at the St. James 9/11 Memorial on Woodlawn Avenue.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The ceremony will honor and remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day, including the brave first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Immediately following the community ceremony, at 6:30 PM, the St. James Fire Department will hold a special memorial service on the Jefferson Ave side, honoring Captain Doug Oelschlager, a member of our department who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Residents, families, veterans, first responders, and community organizations are encouraged to attend as we come together to remember all those we lost and to ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Last night, members of the St. James Fire Department took part in hands-on vehicle extrication training, practicing the skills and techniques needed to safely remove patients from vehicles after serious accidents.

Members worked with our rescue equipment to stabilize vehicles, remove doors and roofs, and create safe access to simulated patients. Training like this gives both newer and experienced members the opportunity to sharpen their skills and work together as a team.

Continuous training is critical to ensuring our members are prepared to respond safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

This week, the American Red Cross declared only the second national blood supply crisis in its history, citing critically low blood donations and worsening shortages of type O and all types. This follows NYBC's own unprecedented second blood emergency of the summer, reinforcing what blood centers across the country are experiencing: the nation's blood supply is under extraordinary strain

Nationally, experts estimate that just three additional donors at every blood drive this summer could help stabilize the blood supply
