Kent David Stevenson passed away on May 17, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on August 22, 1944, Kent’s parents, Russell and Agnes Stevenson, were stationed at the time at Hobbs US Army Airfield base in Hobbs, New Mexico. Kent was the oldest of Russell and Agnes’ four children, as well as the oldest in a line of 18 first cousins! At the end of WWII, Kent’s parents moved back to their hometown of Fargo, North Dakota, where his family lived until 1960. Then in 1960, Kent’s father’s work transferred the family to Edina, MN, which is where he graduated high school. Kent went to the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a business degree, specializing in economics and metallurgical engineering. He worked in the industrial aluminum industry for his entire career.
Kent and his beloved wife Jan married in 1986 and initially lived in Dallas, TX, before moving to their ranch in Muenster, TX, 30 years ago. Kent and Jan loved their life in the country, with their many horses, goats, donkeys, cats, and of course, their beloved dogs. In his youth, Kent and his family spent summers at the family lake cabin – swimming, boating, fishing and spending every moment possible in the out of doors. Kent’s love of being in nature continued with his life on the ranch—his best days were when he could be mending a fence, or feeding the animals, or cutting brush in the lower pasture. Classical music was also a huge part of Kent’s life. At the end of a long day, he found peace and relaxation in listening to classical music—a love that had been a part of his entire life.
Kent had a genuine and hearty greeting for everyone he met. His warm and gregarious personality shone through his smile and he never forgot that every individual should be treated with respect, even in moments of disagreement. Kent’s love of all living things could be seen in how he lived his life every day. He honored and cared for Mother Earth with every fiber of his being.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Agnes Stevenson; his brother, Jeff Stevenson; and stepson Tracy Mossman. Kent is survived by his wife and life partner of 40 years, Jan Stevenson; by his three daughters, Amy Coltharp (Mark) of Austin, TX; Erika Watmough (Steve) of Wilmington, NC; and Lisa Evans of Dallas, TX; stepson Jonathan Mossman (Min) of Dallas, TX; sisters, Kyla Wahlstrom (Richard) of Edina, MN; and Marcy Swenson (Mark) of Edina, MN; sisters-in-law Nancy Stevenson of LaCrosse, WI; Eileen Bradley, Joyce Buchanan, and Nora Gay (all of Florida); grandchildren Megan and Alyssa (Amy); Mason (Lisa); Jourdan (Tracy); and great-grandchildren Claire (Megan); Samuel, Laurie, and Stevie (Jourdan); fifteen first cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
