This week, our entire session used dollar‑store leis, pom poms, and a spinning office chair. With those three simple items, we worked on requesting, commenting, and purposeful communication in ways that felt playful and motivating.

Kids don’t need elaborate setups to learn. They need:

• a supportive adult who knows how to scaffold the skill

Simple materials often lead to the most creative, joyful sessions.

It’s time for our first "Did You Know?" of National Speech-Language-Hearing Month! 💡

As children grow, those "cute" toddler mispronunciations are a normal part of development. But as they move through elementary school, we look for those sounds to "click" into place.

The "First Grade" Milestone

By the time your child is wrapping up First Grade (around age 7), the "speech sound window" typically closes.

This means they should be able to produce all English speech sounds correctly, even the tricky ones like:
💜The "Er" sound (Rabbit, Star)
💜The "S" and "Z" sounds (Soap, Zebra)
💜The "Th" sounds (Think, That)

Why does this matter?

When a child is still struggling with these sounds in 2nd grade and beyond, it can start to impact their confidence in class and even their spelling and reading skills. Catching these lingering sounds now makes for a much smoother transition into the higher grades!
