An apicoectomy treats a tooth infection that has spread to the surrounding bone tissue or resulted in a cyst or abscess. It involves removing a part of the infected tooth root and cleaning out the infected tissue before the tooth is filled. Sometimes this treatment is combined with a bone graft if there has been substantial bone loss.
