Last week I had the pleasure of spending an hour in conversation with Dr. Ellen Littman — the clinical psychologist the American Psychological Association describes as a pioneer in identifying gender differences in ADHD. She has co-chaired the Women & Girls with ADHD Special Interest Group for APSARD (the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders) and has been studying, treating, and advocating for girls and women with ADHD for over 35 years — since long before most of the field believed they existed.

“I can’t see the success when I look in the mirror.”

“I would love to be able to see myself as other people see me.”

I hear multiple versions of these phrases in my office all the time — from accomplished, capable adults who can’t quite access their own success. If you have ADHD, or you’ve spent years wondering whether you might, you may have similar thoughts that pop into your head every once in a while.

🌳☀️ Last week, the Minnesota Neuropsychology team had the opportunity to visit our friends at .in.natureot during one of their summer camps at Klapprich Park in Wayzata!

Campers kicked off the day with an exciting scavenger hunt, and it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm as they worked toward meaningful occupational therapy goals through engaging, nature-based activities. 🍃🔎💚

FUNdamentals in Nature takes a unique, evidence-informed approach to occupational therapy by bringing services outdoors, where children build skills through movement, play, and real-world experiences. In addition to summer camps, they also offer weekly groups and individualized 1:1 OT services.

A big thank you to Alycia for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to see you and your amazing campers in action! 👏😊

When most people think about ADHD, they think about difficulty paying attention. Distractibility. Forgetfulness. Trouble finishing tasks.

Those challenges are real. But what if we’re missing an equally important part of the story?
What if what looks like difficulty focusing is sometimes an extraordinary capacity for curiosity?

There’s a thing that happens to mountain bikers on narrow bridges.

The bridge is wide enough. There’s plenty of room. But the moment a rider’s eyes drop and lock onto the edge — the thing they’re trying not to hit — the handlebars start to wobble. And more often than not, they end up exactly where they were staring.

The fix is simple: Look where you want to go. Eyes up, focused ahead, and the body follows.

We go where we are looking. 👀

One of the most common questions families ask after a dyslexia diagnosis is, “Is dyslexia genetic?”

The answer is yes. Research consistently shows that dyslexia has a significant hereditary component, with heritability estimates ranging from 40% to 70%.

When a parent has dyslexia, the likelihood that their child will also have dyslexia is about 50%. Risk increases even more when multiple family members are affected. Siblings of individuals with dyslexia have about a 3- to 10-fold increased risk (commonly estimated around 40%).

New research shows that antidepressant use drops substantially after ADHD diagnosis — raising thoughtful questions about what was actually going on all along.

We break down three important studies and what they mean for you — whether you are already diagnosed, wondering if you should be, or trying to understand what your child’s diagnosis might mean for your own brain.

Undetected ADHD. Here's what the recent research says — and what to do with it.

We love being out in the community! 💙

Several times throughout the school year, Dr. Ashley Isaia had the opportunity to speak with ECFE classes at Wayzata Public Schools—sharing insights that help parents better understand how their child’s brain grows, learns, and develops. 🧠✨

From emotional regulation and social skills to early signs of ADHD, dyslexia, giftedness, and autism, these conversations gave families practical, research-based guidance they can actually use.

She also walked through what a neuropsychological evaluation looks like—and how it can offer meaningful clarity about a child’s strengths, challenges, and educational needs.

We’re so grateful to the incredible parent educators for inviting Minnesota Neuropsychology to be part of these important conversations. 🤝

Here’s to supporting families with knowledge, connection, and compassion. 💫
