While I love the shift into hotter summer weather, my pregnant clients are often less enchanted. Here are a couple things I recommend to get through this heat. With energy costs increasing, use fans indoors to decrease how cool you perceive a room to be, setting ceiling fans to counter clockwise. This will allow you to increase the setting on the thermostat while feeling cooler.
Keep herbal teas, such as those containing chamomile, lemon balm, mint, lavender, milky oats, red raspberry leaf, nettle, and alfalfa, prebrewed in the fridge. This helps those of use who get bored of water fast, despite the very real need to increase hydration.
Make a concentrate of matcha in the fridge to make cold lattes in the morning if in need of an energy boost and coffee is grossing you out in first trimester. Contrary to popular belief, small to moderate caffeine consumption in pregnancy does not increase miscarriage risk.
And along the lines of beverages, I'm a big proponent of drinking one 16oz electrolyte bev daily in pregnancy, where Liquid IV and LMNT packets are my favorite. This helps support an adequate blood volume and replace salts lost in sweating.
If your legs and ankles are swelling in this heat, the yoga position "feet up the wall" is very doable in pregnancy with a towel tucked under one hip to tilt your belly slightly to the side. Done 1-2 times daily for 10 minutes can help drive fluids from your legs back into your central circulation. Rotate your ankles and pump your feet. Get up slowly as it makes some feel dizzy.
Lastly, get your gorgeous pregnant bods out into a body of water. A pool, lake, or ag trough-now-cold-plunge-pool in the back yard. Submerge yourself up to your chest for at least 20 minutes, preferably while swimming or walking around in the water. This also helps resolve swelling in the legs/feet and gives those at the end of pregnancy a much needed break from their heavy bellies.
