Happy International Doula Month 🤍

The roots of this work are what continue to push us to learn, grow, support, and show up for families every day.

To the doulas and birth workers who came before us, work alongside us, and will come after us, THANK YOU for all that you do. You are so important! 🤗🥰✨

If we had to sum postpartum support up in three words, it would be: one giant exhale. 😮‍💨

A moment of connection with your partner after weeks of adjustment. Help with that long (and never-ending) list of chores. Or a quiet moment to re-ground yourself with a breath or two. That's what a postpartum doula is there for. 👩‍🍼🫂🧡

We've been hearing lots of conversations lately about something called the “fourth trimester.” So let’s talk about it! 🐣

First, for anyone who hasn’t heard this term before (and might be panicking a little)… here’s what it means: The “fourth trimester” refers to the first 12 weeks after birth, when baby and their parent(s) are adjusting to life outside the womb. This time is just as important for bonding, adjustment, and development as the three trimesters baby spent growing in the womb!

During this time, babies often need a lot of physical closeness. Holding, soothing, feeding frequently, and staying physically near their caregivers are all completely normal and expected. Baby is still learning how to exist in the world, and being close to their people helps them feel safe and regulated. 😊

And this part we really want you to hear: the birthing parent’s body did an incredibly hard thing. And it’s still recovering! You may experience bleeding and soreness, hormonal shifts, mood changes, and a level of exhaustion that can feel completely overwhelming. All of that is part of this stage, too.

If things feel tender, emotional, messy, beautiful, and exhausting all at the same time… you’re not doing anything wrong. That’s often what this season can look like. That is where support, encouragement, and care matter most.

They say it takes a village for a reason. You were never meant to do this alone. Postpartum support can look like newborn care, parents getting real rest, emotional reassurance, guidance, help around the house, and so much more. During the fourth trimester, even the smallest acts of support can make a huge difference for both baby and parent(s).

If you've been through this stage before, what made you feel most supported during that time? 💛

On National Reproductive and Sexual Health Awareness Day, we’re reflecting on the importance of access, education, support, and the role that compassionate care plays in helping families feel safe and informed in their choices. 🤍

Everyone deserves care that respects their body, their circumstances, and their right to informed decision-making!
