Season 4 of Early Risers launches today!

This season, we’re speaking with Minnesota parents about race and racism. We often avoid talking about race because it can be painful or uncomfortable, but what we’ve found is that people are looking for a safe space to have these conversations, and we hope this podcast can be that safe space for you. You may hear yourself reflected in these stories, or these stories may be a window into someone else’s experience that’s unfamiliar to you.

On episode 1 of season 4, “White Parents Navigating Anti-Racist Parenting in Minneapolis”, host Dianne Haulcy speaks with Ellen Guettler, a white parent raising her two boys in Minneapolis. Growing up, Ellen attended public schools in St. Paul during the 1990s. She remembers feeling tensions around race and racism but never had the opportunity to talk about these issues with adults. Now, as a parent, Ellen is committed to navigating these conversations with her young children. This episode offers a valuable perspective on navigating anti-racist parenting as a white parent in a diverse community.
