🏅 SPORTS AREN’T JUST PHYSICAL—THEY’RE MENTAL, TOO.

When athletes struggle with confidence, performance anxiety, motivation, focus, or recovering from setbacks, the solution isn’t always more time in the gym or on the field.

That’s where Sport Psychology comes in.

Sport psychology focuses on the mental and emotional factors that influence performance. Whether you’re a high school athlete preparing for competition, a collegiate athlete managing pressure, or someone trying to regain confidence after an injury, mental skills matter.

Some common areas addressed through sport psychology include:

⚽ Performance anxiety and pre-game nerves
🏀 Confidence and self-esteem
🏈 Focus, concentration, and mental preparation
⚾ Motivation and goal setting
🎾 Coping with injuries and recovery
🏐 Managing stress, pressure, and expectations
🏃 Building resilience after mistakes or setbacks

We’re fortunate to have Ashlyn Rakos, MS on our team, whose graduate training included specialized study in Sport Psychology. While mental health and performance are closely connected, this area of expertise offers athletes a unique opportunity to strengthen both.

If you or someone you know could benefit from support on or off the field, Ashlyn is currently accepting new clients!

Yesterday, we asked:

"What's one thing that's making your job harder right now?"

The responses were powerful.

Burnout.
Staffing shortages.
Secondary trauma.
Lack of resources.
Compassion fatigue.
Increasing expectations.
Feeling like there's never enough time.

The reality is that many of us are carrying more than ever before.

That's one of the reasons we created the Bridging the Trauma Gap Conference.

Not because we have all the answers.

But because bringing people together to learn, connect, reflect, and recharge is part of the solution.

If you've been feeling the weight of this work, know that you're not alone.

We're looking forward to these conversations continuing in August!

Come join us at the Bridging The Trauma Gap Conference 2026 to learn, share, and connect on healing from trauma together!

06/04/2026

Let’s have an honest conversation.

Whether you’re a therapist, social worker, educator, healthcare worker, law enforcement officer, foster parent, parent, or someone working in a helping role…

What’s one thing that’s making your job—or your life—harder right now?

Maybe it’s:
• Burnout
• Staffing shortages
• Documentation
• Challenging behaviors
• Compassion fatigue
• Lack of resources
• Difficult systems
• Work-life balance
• Something else entirely

No judgment. No fixing.

Just curious what people are carrying right now.

✨ NOW ACCEPTING NEW THERAPY CLIENTS ✨

At Greater Minnesota Trauma Center, we’re continuing to grow so we can serve more individuals and families in our community.

🧠 **Now accepting new clients with Zach, MA, LPCC**
Zach works with adolescents and adults and believes lasting change happens when we move beyond symptom management to understand the *root causes* of mental health concerns while building practical skills for growth, healing, and greater freedom.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life stress, relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck, therapy can help.

And more good news… 👀

🚀 **We’re expanding our therapy team again!**

In the coming weeks, we’ll be welcoming a new pre-licensed clinician to GMNTC.

This clinician brings experience working with **children, adolescents, and young adults**, with a background in **Sport Psychology** and a second master’s degree being completed this July. We’re excited about the energy, perspective, and support they’ll bring to our team.

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy, now is a great time to reach out.

😅 Well… this is awkward.

Apparently, in all of our conference excitement, we somehow forgot to officially spotlight the presenter whose entire session is about humor.

Honestly? It feels on brand for a conference about burnout. 😅

🎤 SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT: Glenn Maloney, MSW, LICSW, LADC

✨ Finding the Humor in Psychotherapy

Because sometimes the most clinically appropriate intervention is not another worksheet.

Humor isn’t just entertainment—it can be a powerful therapeutic tool when used intentionally.

In this engaging and practical session, Glenn will explore:

🧠 The evolutionary role of humor in human development
😂 How humor impacts the brain and nervous system
💬 Ways humor can strengthen connection, insight, and emotional regulation in therapy
⚠️ When humor helps—and when it absolutely does not

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how humor can foster healing while remaining clinically thoughtful and ethically grounded.

About Glenn:

Glenn is a psychotherapist in Duluth, Minnesota and founder of Most Excellent Psychotherapy (which, frankly, is an incredible practice name). He brings nearly 15 years of combined experience in social work, psychotherapy, and substance use treatment, along with training in DBT, CBT, SFBT, RCT, and EMDR.

He also presents nationally on humor in psychotherapy and teaches future social workers—so yes, he’s professionally funny.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend…it’s a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

At Greater Minnesota Trauma Center, we recognize the courage, service, and sacrifice of military members and the lasting impact loss can have on families, loved ones, and communities.

Today, we honor the fallen and hold space for those carrying grief, remembrance, and pride.
