It’s Tuesday, which means it’s my weekly reminder!

Feeding Support Group & Mom + Baby Social Hour is TOMORROW, Wednesday from 10–11 AM

Come as you are. Come for feeding support, community, conversation, or simply because you need to get out of the house and be around other moms. No judgment, no pressure… just a welcoming space.

📸 One little reminder:Our social media managers will be joining us tomorrow to capture some photos and videos of the clinic and our amazing community. If you do not want to be included, just let me know when you arrive and we’ll make sure you stay out of the photos/videos. I respect autonomy..

Come bring your babies, your questions, your chaos, and we’ll have the coffee ready!

See you tomorrow!

I need your honest advice, mommas.

I’m genuinely trying to figure this one out.

For the past 8months, I have tried to host a small-group prenatal breastfeeding class every month.

I have had to cancel 6 out of 8classes because I haven't had enough people register.

And honestly? It breaks my heart.

The class is normally $50, and an individual prenatal consultation is $100. But I'm asking families to spend $10 for a two-hour group class designed to help you feel more comfortable, prepared, and confident before your baby arrives.

Meanwhile, we're spending hundreds (and sometimes thousands) preparing for baby, cribs, strollers, car seats, clothes, bottles, diaper bags, registries...

And I keep sitting here thinking:

How do I convince you that this $10 is worth it?

Because I know what happens when families walk through my door postpartum feeling overwhelmed and thinking, “Why didn't anyone tell me this?"

I don't want you to have to wait until you're exhausted, hurting, questioning your supply, or wondering why feeding isn't going the way you imagined before you seek education.

So I'm asking you….not as a business owner, but as your local IBCLC…

What would make YOU want to attend a prenatal breastfeeding class?

Tell me.
I genuinely want to hear from you because I'm tired of banging my head against the wall trying to make these classes happen.

I want to make prenatal education accessible. I just need to figure out how to get families in the door.

Mommas!!!

This Wednesday, our social media gurus are coming to Abeille Feeding Clinic – The Fort to capture photos and videos of our space, our community, and what we do!

And YES… they’ll also be capturing our Feeding Support Group because, honestly, we’re pretty awesome!! and community is one of the things we do best here.

I’m looking for a few families who would be willing to participate in:
- Breastfeeding support
- Bottle-feeding support
- Pumping support
- Short testimonials
- Photos/videos during our support group

Nothing needs to be scripted or perfect. I want to capture the real, beautiful, sometimes messy, sometimes chaotic, and always supportive side of feeding and motherhood.

If you come to our Wednesday group and would be comfortable being part of photos/videos or doing a quick testimonial, please message me!

Let's show other families what happens when you create a space where moms can come as they are, babies can be babies, and nobody has to figure it all out alone.

Enjoy my only in action photos I have in the past 8 years

I will always shout this from the rooftops...

We need more diversity in the IBCLC profession.

We need more Black women, Indigenous women, Latina women, Asian women, and women from every community stepping into the role of supporting mothers and babies.

There is so much history that cannot be erase, but it can be acknowledged. And together, we can help change the future.

I want to see disparities in breastfeeding support and maternal health improve. I want to see the statistics change. I want every family to have access to a provider who understands their experiences, respects their culture, and makes them feel seen and heard.

So if you're a Black woman with a passion for lactation, maternal health, or supporting families, i am cheering you on.

Please consider applying for this scholarship. Your voice matters. Your lived experiences matter. And the families you will one day serve need you.

The future of lactation support is stronger when it reflects the communities we serve.

Tag someone who should see this. Let's help the next generation of IBCLCs rise.

World Breastfeeding Week – Day 6: Let's Hear the WORST Advice!

Okay... it's time to settle this.

We've all received “that” piece of breastfeeding or pumping advice that made us think...

Wait... WHAT?! 🤨

Tell me the worst, funniest, or most questionable breastfeeding or pumping advice you've ever been given!

I’ll start...

“Your milk isn't fatty enough."

“You should only nurse for exactly 10 minutes on each side."

Now it's your turn!

What's the worst advice you were given?
Did you actually follow it?
Looking back... can you laugh about it now?

Let's have some fun, bust a few myths, and maybe save another family from hearing the same bad advice.

Bonus challenge:Reply to someone else's comment with the advice you wish they'd heard instead. Let's replace myths with support.

World Breastfeeding Week – Day 5: Prepare for the Journey!

You'd never hike a mountain without a map (maybe you would?!?)... so why prepare for birth without preparing for feeding your baby?

Here's a fun question...

What is ONE thing you wish you had known before you started breastfeeding?

I'll go first:

Breastfeeding is natural... but it doesn't always come naturally.

Share your answer in the comments…you might help an expecting parent feel more confident before their little one arrives!

Whether it's...
“I wish someone told me to keep a giant water bottle nearby."
“I wish I knew how important it was to ask for help sooner."
“I wish I could remember what b**b I last fed on!"

Let's learn from each other!

Expecting a baby?
One of the best ways to prepare is with education before your little one arrives.

World Breastfeeding Week – Day 4: It Takes a Village

No one should have to do motherhood alone.

Today, let's celebrate the people who helped us through the hardest days of breastfeeding and early motherhood. Maybe it was someone who brought you a meal, held the baby so you could shower, listened while you cried, washed your pump parts, reminded you that you were doing an amazing job, or simply sat beside you during those long nights.

Tag someone who supported your breastfeeding journey and tell us:

Who are they?
What did they do that you'll never forget?

Maybe they...
- Refilled your water bottle every feeding.
- Took the baby after a middle-of-the-night nursing session.
- Encouraged you when you wanted to quit.
- Held your hand through the tears.
- Came over so you weren't alone.
- Simply reminded you that you were enough.

Let's fill the comments with gratitude and remind those special people that their kindness made a difference.

And if you're still looking for your village, we'd love to be part of it.

Day 3: Breastfeeding Toddlers

Where are my people who have breastfed past a year?!?

According to KellyMom, Although there has been little research done on children who breastfeed beyond the age of two, the available information indicates that breastfeeding continues to be a valuable source of nutrition and disease protection for as long as breastfeeding continues.

“Human milk in the second year postpartum contained significantly higher concentrations of total protein, lactoferrin, lysozyme and Immunoglobulin A, than milk bank samples, and significantly lower concentrations of zinc, calcium, iron and oligosaccharides.”
— Perrin 2016

“Human milk expressed by mothers who have been lactating for >1 year has significantly increased fat and energy contents, compared with milk expressed by women who have been lactating for shorter periods. During prolonged lactation, the fat energy contribution of breast milk to the infant diet might be significant.”
— Mandel 2005

In a study of 250 toddlers in western Kenya, breastmilk provided, on average, 32% of the child’s total energy intake. “Breast milk made an important contribution to the fat and vitamin A intakes of toddlers in this community.”
— Onyango 2002

“Breast milk continues to provide substantial amounts of key nutrients well beyond the first year of life, especially protein, fat, and most vitamins.”
— Dewey 2001

In the second year (12-23 months), 448 mL of breastmilk provides:
29% of energy requirements
43% of protein requirements
36% of calcium requirements
75% of vitamin A requirements
76% of folate requirements
94% of vitamin B12 requirements
60% of vitamin C requirements
— Dewey 2001

August is National Breastfeeding Month
National Breastfeeding Month is more than a celebration, it's an opportunity to raise awareness, promote breastfeeding support, recognize disparities, and advocate for every family to have equitable access to evidence-based care.

This year's National Breastfeeding Month theme is: RISE: Resilience • Interdependence • Self-Determination • Empowerment Throughout August, we recognize several important observances:

August 1–7 | World Breastfeeding Week2026 Theme: Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.
This global campaign reminds us to invest in what we know improves breastfeeding outcomes, strong healthcare systems, skilled lactation support, family-friendly workplaces, and communities that help parents succeed.

August 8–14 | Indigenous Milk Medicine Week2026 Theme: We Keep the Fires Lit: Rising Through Milk Medicine.
This week honors Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and the cultural importance of Milk Medicine while bringing attention to the need for culturally respectful care.

August 15–21 | Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Breastfeeding Week
2026 Theme: Better Data, Better Care for AANHPI Families
This observance mission is to decrease in equities and normalize chest and breast-feeding in AANHPI communities by improving education and support practices

August 22-24 I Military Lactation Celebration
2026 Theme: Supporting Every Military Feeding Journey
Military-focused events continue to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by service members and military spouses, including PCS moves, deployments, field training, and limited access to consistent lactation care.

August 25–31 | Black Breastfeeding Week2026 Theme: WE ALL WE GOT: 15 Years of Community, Care, and Collective Power.
Black Breastfeeding Week shines a light on persistent disparities in maternal and infant health as a response to the high black, infant mortality rate the lack of diversity in the lactation field and unique cultural barriers among black women and shines a light on efforts in initiatives that support breast-feeding among black families.

September 1-7 I Workplace Lactation Week
2026 Theme: Work. Pump. Advance. Empowering the modern Parent.
Workplace lactation week was created to celebrate the contributions of nursing mothers and parents in the workplace and aligns with Labor Day, highlighting the vital role working and pumping parents play in the workforce.

September 8-14 I Semana de la Lactancia Latina
2026 Tema: Raices de Amor: Lactancia con Orgulio y Poder
The observation aims to uplift voices from the Latino/x community and celebrate the diverse cultures and resilience of Latino communities. The collective also strives to bring awareness to the unique barriers, faced by these communities and advocates for language justice.

Why does this matter?
National Breastfeeding Month isn't just about breastfeeding. It's about ensuring every family… regardless of race, culture, military status, income, or zip code, has access to education, skilled support, and a community that helps them meet their feeding goals.
Here in St. Robert, Missouri, that's exactly what we're working to build: a place where families can find connection, evidence-based support, and a village that continues long after August ends.

Together, we can continue to strengthen what works and RISE together.
