Meet Emily Thompson, the newest member of the Heritage Oaks Health of St. Simons family! 💙🌿

A native of Vidalia, Georgia, Emily recently graduated from Georgia Southern University with a B.S. in Sociology. She joins us after nearly two years as a Volunteer Coordinator with Affinis Hospice, where she discovered how much she loves creating meaningful connections and being part of a team.

And what a whirlwind season of life it has been for Emily! In just a few short months, she graduated college, became engaged to her fiancé, Brantley, moved to the Golden Isles, and started her new role as our Life Enrichment Director! 🎓💍🏡

Emily has always loved St. Simons, thanks in part to her family’s vacation home close by in Townsend. Now she’s excited to make it home and get to know our residents while creating a fun, engaging calendar filled with activities and special moments.

When she’s not working, Emily and Brantley enjoy fishing, being on the water, traveling, and spending time with their two furbabies, Odie and Fancy 🐾. They’re also dreaming of future adventures to St. Lucia, the Caribbean, and Italy!

Nothing is more refreshing on a hot summer afternoon than ice-cold watermelon! 🍉 Watermelon Wednesday was the perfect way to cool off.

Residents enjoyed a double dose of fun with Bingo and sweet, refreshing watermelon, while our staff joined in the celebration by dressing in watermelon-inspired colors to add to the festive atmosphere. It was an afternoon filled with smiles, laughter, and summertime fun! ☀️💚❤️

Twenty years ago, these two gentlemen were daily visitors to their mothers, who were residents here, and a lasting friendship was formed.

R.O. "Ro" Reimers could often be seen strolling outside the patio of his mother, Campinet Reimers' room on the 200 Hall, enjoying a good cigar. Each evening after leaving his business for the day, Elden Carmichael would stop in to visit his mother, Bea Carmichael, whose room was on the 300 Hall.

Perhaps neither of them realized at the time that they were laying the foundation for a friendship that would last for decades.

Now, all these years later, fate has brought them back into our home in a special way. After moving into the 300 Hall, Ro asked if there had ever been a second-generation resident. The answer was no—until now. Ro is the very first, and we can't think of anyone better to hold that distinction!

Even more heartwarming, Ro's friendship with Elden has never wavered. Elden is here every day to visit his dear friend, just as he once came to visit his mother all those years ago.

We're honored to have these two incredible gentlemen with us once again.

It's always enjoyable—and good for the soul—when the staff can get together, share some laughs, and simply enjoy each other's company. But when one of the most "all business" members of the team reveals her alter ego as the DJ of the Karaoke Club, it makes the moment even more unforgettable! 🎤🎶😄
