When Memory Changes, Support Matters šŸ’œ

Alzheimer’s disease doesn’t just affect the person living with the disease; it impacts the entire family. As needs change, families may find themselves navigating medical decisions, changing behaviors, care options, and the emotional challenges that come with the journey.

That’s why having the right team of professionals working together matters. Physicians, care managers, senior living professionals, caregivers, and hospice and palliative care teams can each provide valuable guidance and support along the way.

At Breeze Hospice of Missouri & Palliative Care, our staff is trained to care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. We understand that memory loss can bring changes in communication, behaviors, abilities, and daily needs. Our team approaches every patient with patience, compassion, understanding, and dignity.

This World Alzheimer’s Month, we want families to know that you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. We’re here to walk alongside you and your loved one, provide compassionate care, answer your questions, and offer support through every stage of the journey.

ā€œBut You Seemed Fine Yesterdayā€¦ā€

On the start of Chronic Pain Awareness Month, we ask that you remember that one of the hardest parts of living with a chronic or invisible illness is the unpredictability. Someone may have a day when they feel well enough to work, socialize, run errands, or enjoy time with family…and the next day, they may be exhausted, uncomfortable, or unable to do the things they normally would.

A good day doesn’t mean someone isn’t struggling. And needing extra support today doesn’t erase what they were able to do yesterday.

We may not always see the pain, fatigue, limitations, or emotional toll that comes with chronic illness. That’s why compassion, patience, and understanding matter. You never truly know what someone is carrying behind the moments when they look ā€œfine.ā€

And you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Our Palliative Care team is here to walk beside you while you continue treatment for your chronic or serious illness. Palliative care can provide an extra layer of support focused on comfort, symptom management, quality of life, and helping you and your family navigate the challenges that can come with ongoing illness. And when the time comes, we’ll be here to help you understand your options and walk you through the next steps.

Please know that you can continue seeking treatment while receiving palliative care. We meet you where you are and walk beside you from there. šŸ’™

šŸ•Šļø A QUESTION FOR ANYONE WHO HAS EVER LOVED SOMEONE THROUGH HOSPICE…

If you could go back and tell yourself ONE thing before your loved one entered hospice, what would you say?

ā¤ļø ā€œDon’t be afraid.ā€

šŸ” ā€œBring them home.ā€

ā° ā€œSpend more time with them.ā€

šŸ—£ļø ā€œAsk the questions you’re afraid to ask.ā€

šŸ¤ ā€œLet hospice help you.ā€

🌿 ā€œIt’s okay to choose comfort.ā€

šŸ™ ā€œYou’re going to get through this.ā€

Or maybe something completely different…

Finish this sentence:

šŸ‘‰ ā€œBefore hospice, I wish I had known _________.ā€

There is so much fear and uncertainty surrounding hospice. Sometimes families wait because they think choosing hospice means they are giving up.

But hospice can be about something very different:

More comfort.
More meaningful moments.
More support.
More dignity.
More time focused on the person—not just the illness.

If you’ve experienced hospice, your words may be exactly what another family needs to hear today. ā¤ļø

Share your answer below. You never know who may be reading it and quietly needing those words.

CPR can look very different for an elderly or medically fragile loved one than many families realize ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Understanding what CPR may involve, and the potential for pain, injury, ICU care, and prolonged recovery, can help families have meaningful conversations about their loved one’s wishes before a crisis occurs.

It’s not about giving up. It’s about understanding, preparing, and honoring what matters most šŸ•Šļø

Understanding Benzodiazepines in Hospice Care šŸ’™

Benzodiazepines are an important part of hospice care when used thoughtfully and appropriately. Their purpose isn’t to hasten death—it’s to provide comfort, ease distress, and improve quality of life for patients facing serious illness.

These medications may be used to help relieve:
• Anxiety and panic
• Restlessness or agitation
• Shortness of breath related to anxiety
• Seizures
• Difficulty resting at the end of life

Every patient is different, which is why medications are carefully assessed, individually dosed, and routinely adjusted to meet each person’s unique needs. Our focus is always on comfort, dignity, and helping patients spend meaningful time with the people they love.

At Breeze Hospice of Missouri, we’re committed to educating families, addressing concerns, and providing compassionate support every step of the way. You’re never alone on this journey. šŸ’™

National Wellness Month 🌿

This National Wellness Month, remember that caring for yourself is just as important as caring for others. Small moments of rest, movement, and connection can make a meaningful difference in your overall well-being.

At Breeze Hospice of Missouri, we encourage everyone—caregivers, patients, families, and our community—to prioritize wellness one day at a time. šŸ’™
