Massachusetts is taking a proactive step to protect young people from the surge in sports betting ads, and MACGH is at the center of that work. Our Programs team developed the curriculum now being used in schools to help boys understand the risks, recognize the tactics, and think critically about the messages they’re seeing.
As our CEO Marlene Warner told Commonwealth Beacon, “Ads are coming at kids fast and furious.” That’s why early education matters. It gives students the tools to pause, question, and make informed choices long before gambling becomes a problem.
A recent survey of 11- to 17-year-old boys found that around a third gambled in the last year. A new state program aims to prevent problem gambling in youth.
