What a wonderful Williamsburg weekend! First of all, an enthusiastic congratulations to Verneeta Williams, MD who was installed as VAFP President (and to all other incoming officers, directors and representatives) during the annual Virginia Academy of Family Physicians summer meeting! 🎉 Dr. Williams will serve the Academy with both boldness and compassion and we look forward to her leadership!

During the same ceremony, Dr. Bolin was installed as the Senior VAFP Delegate to the AAFP Board. He has served the Academy in many capacities over the years and is honored to be able to continue to do so. However, the most fun he has ever had in their service was last Saturday night when he and the rest of the band The Roanoke String Doctors were the evening entertainment for the end-of-conference party! Dr. B has some hidden talents his medical colleagues are just learning about 😉. He had a blast singing 🎤 and playing harmonica 🎶 for an evening of 70’s classic rock and Americana music. It was, by all accounts, a fantastic evening!🕺🏻💃

Exciting news! Dr. Bolin has been named a Top Doc in the July/August edition of the Roanoker magazine! Oddly enough, he won in the category of Orthopedics! He actually specializes in Sports Medicine as well as Family Practice and Sleep Medicine, having completed a formal fellowship in the first two specialties and being board certified in all three. Because a significant part of his practice centers on musculoskeletal medicine, there is some overlap with traditional non-surgical orthopedic medicine. Also, his personal practice of the discipline may be more of an orthopedic approach because his Sports Medicine Fellowship training was largely imparted by orthopedists.

In any case, Dr. Bolin is greatly humbled and deeply grateful his patients chose him for this honor. Thank you! However, he in no way wishes to disrespect his valued orthopedic colleagues. The Roanoke Valley is indeed blessed to have so many skilled providers! Congratulations to all who have been recognized!

As we celebrate the birth of our nation, Dr. Bolin wishes to express his deep and abiding gratitude. Gratitude to be able to live in a country where we can have vast disagreements, but can express them unhindered. Where we may worship differently from our neighbors, but are at liberty to do so. Where we are able to choose and follow our own unique paths. The freedom to make these choices should never be taken for granted. Dr. Bolin is grateful every day for those who fought to establish the freedoms we enjoy, as well as for those like his father who have defended them in the past and those who continue to do so today. We live in a remarkable country. Not one without faults, but an exceptional one nonetheless. And so, we celebrate! Happy 250th, America! 🇺🇸 🎆 🎂 🇺🇸

Dr. Bolin spent the past week in the beautiful city of Seattle at the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine national meeting (with the bonus of getting to visit his son and daughter-in-law 😉). He was honored to give the keynote speech…the Allen Jacobs Memorial Lecture…which was also the ACSM exchange lecture. Dr. B often usues humor to engage his audiences and this strategy was obviously in play right from the start as the title of the lecture was “The Agony of ‘De Feet’: Biomedical contributions of the foot to lower extremity dysfunctions and running injuries”. There were 60 former VCOM sports medicine fellows and their spouses in attendance, all of whom Dr. B had helped train. The VCOM reunion event was well attended, and Dr. B was excited to see and visit with so many former students!

Dr. Bolin’s first Anthem Star 10k! He did alright “for an old guy”…and even lived to tell about it! 😆 Although he did say that rather being sponsored by Anthem, the race should be sponsored by Oakey’s!
