Speech-in-Noise (noun)

Definition: The ability to understand speech when there’s background noise.

That’s called a speech-in-noise challenge, and it’s often one of the earliest signs of hearing loss.

Spokane Fire Disaster...
If you know of any patients who have been affected by the Spokane fire who may have lost their hearing aids as a result of the evacuation, please have them contact the Frink Foundation for assistance. This actually applies for ANY disaster situation, but since Spokane isn't too far from where I live, it's high on my radar.
Normally, the Frink Foundation provides hearing aids to adults and children who can't normally afford them and don't have any resources to take care of them. Since it was established in 2020, we have yet to turn anyone down.

With a disaster situation, however, I get a bit more liberally in offering to assist. The patient needs a local sponsor to apply for assistance on their behalf, because they will be taking care of the patients long-term. When applying, if the patient doesn't normally meet the financial criteria but is in a disaster situation so their long-term income is questionable, just include a written explanation about what is going on.

The Frink Foundation operates for individuals nationwide, but also supports mission trips to other countries.
