Did you know men tend to drink alcohol more often than women? They are also more likely to binge drink. Even before alcohol causes long-term health problems, it can hurt your workouts, lower your energy, disrupt your sleep, and slow down your recovery.

Drinking less plays a big role in living a healthier life. It can help you avoid injuries and accidents now, as well as lower your risk for heart disease and certain cancers later in life.

Sunshine season is here! ☀️

Whether you're heading to the park, the pool, or the backyard, a little sun safety can help keep summer fun going strong for your family.

If you have young children, keep these tips in mind:

👶 Babies younger than 6 months should stay in the shade whenever possible. Lightweight clothing and sun hats can help protect their sensitive skin.
🕶️ Sun hats and sunglasses aren't just cute. They help protect little faces and eyes from UV rays.
🧴 Choose a baby-safe sunscreen with mineral ingredients to help reduce skin irritation.
🏊 Don't forget to reapply sunscreen, especially after swimming, sweating, or spending extended time outdoors.

Planning a trip to Detroit Lake? Here's an important update for pet owners.

A precautionary advisory has been issued for Detroit Lake due to cyanotoxins. Current levels are considered safe for people, but they may still be harmful to pets.

If you're bringing your dog along, take a few extra precautions:
🐕 Keep dogs out of water that is foamy, scummy, or looks like spilled paint.
💧 Don't let them drink lake water or lick algae from rocks, the shoreline, or their fur.
🚿 Rinse your dog with clean water if they come into contact with a bloom.
🚨 Contact a veterinarian right away if your dog shows symptoms such as vomiting, weakness, drooling, or staggering.

We all want our summer adventures to end with happy memories and wagging
tails. Help keep your furry family members safe by knowing what to look for before
they jump in.

🌡️ Who will you check on today?

Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially for older adults, young children, people with chronic health conditions, and those who spend time outdoors.

Heat stroke is the most serious heat-related illness and can quickly become life-threatening.

Warning signs include:
• A body temperature of 103°F or higher
• Hot, red skin
• A rapid, strong pulse
• Confusion or loss of consciousness

If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke:
☎️ Call 911 immediately
🌳 Move them to a cooler place
❄️ Use cool cloths, water, or a cool shower to lower their body temperature
🚫 Do not give them anything to drink

This summer, let's take care of each other. A quick phone call, text message, or visit can make a big difference during extreme heat.

Summer is here, and with it comes an increased risk of wildfires along state highways caused by motorists dragging chains, driving on underinflated tires and tossing ci******es.

Dragging chains during towing can cause sparks. Check and secure tow chains, and never substitute parts when towing.

In the last decade, humans caused 7 out of 10 wildfires on state-protected land in Oregon. In 2025, the number of human-caused fires exceeded the 10-year average by 33, totaling 796. Equipment use is the number one source of human-caused wildfire.
