Dear Birth Cottage Families and Friends,
I have some news to share. On Friday July 17, I successfully sold my Birth Cottage of Salem birth center. This may come as a shock to many, but it was indeed many months in the making. Rest assured my birth center is not closing but rather being given a new life. It was not a decision that I took lightly.
For the past several years, it has been increasingly evident that I needed to downsize and simplify my life. For those who know me, you understand it has been a difficult journey these last 3 ½ years. Through it all I have remained steadfast in my commitment to the community, midwifery, and the families I serve. But it is time to reimagine what life will look like as I start towards retirement in a few years and move on with my family.
I will remain in my Milford facility close to home for the next several years, mentoring a new leadership team to transition to when the time is right. We will continue with our work, every single day and night, just like we always have for the foreseeable future. We remain committed to equitable midwifery care that is safe, affordable and accessible.
The new owners have a big vision for my Salem center. They will take Her into the next phase of her life, growing and changing with their wisdom and experience. Together, my life work will flourish into something new and exciting under their leadership and guidance. They have a long road ahead of them with renovations, state licensing, and insurance contracting which will take many months. I have committed to helping them achieve these goals in any way that I can. Together, we create birth centers that are sustainable and thriving.
Please welcome them to our community. And reach out at any time if you have any questions or concerns.

Did you know that midwifery care in New Hampshire is licensed, regulated, and evidence-based? Our midwives provide comprehensive prenatal care, including ultrasounds, routine screenings, lab work, birth support, and postpartum care.

Midwifery isn’t “less care.” It’s a safe, controlled wholistic approach to birth.
It’s personalized, informed, and family-centered.

This room is where we meet, listen, educate, and care, long before labor begins.

Birth doesn’t have to feel clinical to be safe. Visit our website birthcottage.com for more about us!

Dear Birth Cottage Families,
To say it has been a difficult year and a half would be a gross understatement. First a life-altering car accident coming to the center one night followed by my husband's cancer diagnosis and ultimate passing recently. This time of upheaval has been unparalleled.

To my family and front-end staff along with the community midwives who stood by my side day and night, I owe my life to you. To the families who sent cards, flowers, gifts of love, and especially food, there will never be enough gratitude in the world. I never got a chance to send a card to each person individually but know that I appreciated every single thought and gesture to my very soul. Your prayers and kind thoughts got me through the most difficult time of my life and I am forever grateful.

As I return to work this week full time, I am ready to embrace the next chapter of life without my dear sweet life partner. He helped me build my birth centers from my visions and make them realities. Our children carry on his work along with close friends who have taken on the responsibilities of facility management and development. I look forward to seeing all of you in person once again.

One thing is for sure- babies will continue being born. And we stand committed to safe, affordable, accessible, and compassionate midwifery care in our own communities. Much love to you all,
Adrian

NH Midwives and midwifery in NH is at risk for being dismantled. It has been proposed that the NH Midwifery Council, our state's licensing and regulatory board, be consolidated under a larger body and lose it's regulatory power completely. It would be ONLY an advisory board.

I adamantly oppose this action.

If you agree with me, and wish for midwifery to remain autonomous and accessible in NH, please consider donating so we can retain a professional lobbying group to act on our behalf for the year. It's VITAL to our success.

Any little bit helps. Please. Just $5 or 10 from a handful of people would go a long way. And it's tax deductible.

The Association is seeking to raise $5000.00 by October 1st to retain The Dupont Group for the next 12 months to represent and advocate for important midwife priorities with the NH legislature and state agencies.  We hope you will contribute and reach out to your clients and friends to help as well...
