Finally got our “fire evac go box” put together 👏
We DO NOT have a fire close to us, thankfully. But I like to think if I’m prepared for the worst, it won’t actually happen. 🤞
There are many fires in Colorado right now, including one about an hour’s drive away. And the conditions here are prime …
😳 Hot and windy
😱Dry grass and lots of dead trees in the nearby forests
😥 Almost no rain the the past several weeks.
So it’s time to be prepared!
** Check with your local emergency management organization for info on what you should put together for your area.**

I shared some of what I packed in the video, and here are a few logistics tips:
👉 it took me about an hour to gather the items on my list
👉 I “raided” our extra camping supplies for some of the stuff, including water treatment supplies, a multi-tool, first aid kit and lights.
👉 there are some items that we’ll need to grab last minute if we have to go, like laptops and passports, so I taped a list of those items on the top of the box.

I hope this helps … be safe out there 🙏🏻

When your summit attempt gets abandoned due to a dry creek … Colorado’s drought is BAD!
The original plan - summit Mt. Antero (14,269) via Little Browns Creek trail. Backpack in a few miles, camp, get up early and hike to the top.
Backstory - I’ve been wanting to do this route for 4+ years.
In August 2022 I scouted Little Browns Creek trail to make sure the water source was solid and there were good campsites. The water was flowing and I found several good sites then.
Fast forward to June 26, 2026 - usually around peak snowmelt runoff, though we had a very low snow year.
Still was SHOCKED when we got to the first campsite option and the creek was BONE DRY.
We would’ve had to carry in 4+ liters each to camp and climb. We had no reason to believe we’d need to do that, so we didn’t have enough.
Lesson learned - in a tough drought year, scout the water source before you go!
Fingers crossed for next year!!!

Majestic Mount Ouray, named after the distinguished Ute Chief whose native lands we live on now, is a constant reminder outside my office window of those who cherished these mountains before my ancestors arrived on this continent.
I finally reached its peak on Saturday!
We enjoyed clear skies, perfect temps, wildflowers and each others’ company.
Did NOT like the tippy boulders, multiple ups and downs on the ridgeline, and wicked winds on the way down!
Another peak with my bestie Beth Bershader her hubby Keith and Tara!

Finally hiked Greens Creek trail to the Continental Divide! It’s been on my list for a while and it’s a great training hike for my upcoming 14ers this summer.
14 miles round trip, 3k feet of elevation gain (and loss out and back), 6 1/2 hours, gorgeous weather
Snow fields, downed trees and creek crossings added to the fun!
Good day with my friend Tara and Piper the pup!

Move More Monday: Side Lunge + Curtsey Lunge combo!
This multi-step combo gets your lateral movement and cross-body movements together for brain and body benefits!
1. Start with feet hip width apart, then step one leg out to the side.
2. Bend the knee of that leg while keeping the other knee straight for your side lunge.
3. Push off the foot of the bent leg, bring it back towards center, then cross it behind the straight leg.
4. Bend both knees to curtsey.
5. Pick up the foot from behind and bring it back next to the other one.
6. Repeat with the other foot stepping out to the side, etc.
What do you think of this more complex movement? Share your feedback ⬇️

Move More Monday - Forward Lunge + Uppercut
Today let's keep it fairly simple with a two-step movement.
1. Stand with feet together and hands up like a boxer. Step forward 2 feet or so into a lunge stance.
2. Bring your opposite elbow down and back, then swing your arm up in a uppercut punch.
3. Step back and then do on the other side.
Repeat a few times to get the blood flowing and release some tension!
