Hepatitis Awareness Week is July 26 to August 1.

Every 30 seconds, someone around the world dies from a hepatitis-related illness. Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that can be caused by viruses, certain medications, alcohol, or other health conditions. Symptoms may include fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), but many people have no symptoms at all.

July brings warm temperatures, outdoor activities, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the summer season. While it's important to stay active and have fun, it's equally important to stay hydrated. Dehydration can happen quickly during hot weather, especially when spending time outdoors, traveling, or participating in physical activities. Common signs of dehydration include thirst, fatigue, headaches, dizziness, and muscle cramps. Drinking water regularly throughout the day, even before you feel thirsty, is one of the best ways to help your body stay healthy and energized.

Proper hydration is especially important for older adults, children, and individuals taking certain medications. Some medications, including diuretics ("water pills"), blood pressure medications, and medications used to treat certain chronic conditions, may increase the risk of dehydration or heat-related illness. Summer is the perfect time for vacations, road trips, and family adventures. A little preparation before you leave can help keep everyone healthy and safe while traveling.

Before your trip, make sure you have enough prescription medications to last your entire vacation, plus a few extra days in case of delays. Keep medications in their original labeled containers and carry them with you whenever possible. It's also smart to pack travel essentials such as pain relievers, allergy medications, motion sickness remedies, hand sanitizer, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
