My name is Mia Hong, and I am a research intern at the Southwest ADA Center and Independent Living Research Utilization (ILRU) at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, Texas.

We are conducting an anonymous survey exploring how formerly incarcerated individuals with disabilities or chronic health conditions experience healthcare after release — particularly how those experiences shape trust in medical systems.

Participants must:
Be age 18 or older
Live in the United States
Have a history of incarceration (but not be currently incarcerated)
Identify as having a disability or chronic health condition

The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes. It is uncompensated, but the results may help improve how healthcare systems support people with disabilities after incarceration.

I’m reaching out to ask if your organization would be open to sharing the survey — whether through a newsletter, email list, social media, printed copies, or other community channels. The IRB protocol number is HSC-SPH-25-0778, and I’m happy to provide additional information if helpful.

Lifeline Program - Discounted Phone & Internet Services

United Way Worldwide has teamed up with Verizon to help raise awareness about Lifeline, a long-standing federal program that helps individuals and families save money on essential phone and internet services. Many people don’t know this benefit exists, even though they may qualify. The program is available through multiple providers nationwide. One of these provider is Verizon who offers Lifeline access through Walmart Family Mobile, making it more accessible to eligible households.

What is Lifeline? Lifeline is a federal benefit program that provides a monthly discount on phone or broadband service for qualifying low-income consumers. It ensures access to critical communication services for:

Work
Healthcare
Education
Emergency assistance
While federally funded, the program is administered at the state level, so eligibility and benefits may vary.

What Does Lifeline Provide? Depending on the provider, Lifeline plans may include:

Free or discounted monthly wireless service
Unlimited talk and text
A data allowance or unlimited data
Bring-your-own-device options

Why Lifeline May Be a Good Fit for Callers

Reduces or eliminates the cost of mobile service

🍽 Summer Lunch Menu | June 1-5
Lunch is served weekdays from 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the McKenzie Center, located north of the library. Youth ages 0–18 are given priority and must be present to receive a meal.
