πŸ˜… While a patient may bend the truth, your gums do not lie.
🧡 We ask if you floss, not to simply encourage you to floss, but so that we can assess your gums correctly. If you are flossing and still have gum tissue issues, it could be a sign of a more serious problem.

😜 However, for most people who floss daily, it's less likely to be other issues, so it is likely red and inflamed because you flossed like a boss right before your appointment.

🦷 A bone graft may become necessary at times due to inadequate bone volume, to prevent loss of bone density, or to repair bone structure after trauma.
πŸ‘‰ This procedure is common before dental implants, giving the threads a secure base to hold so they can last a lifetime.

πŸ“† If you're considering dental implants, it is best to plan ahead because bone grafts take time to heal and be ready for an implant. While the surgery is short, it can take up to a year for the graft to fully integrate.

✨✨ Fast Fact Friday:

πŸ‘‰ Oral cancer is real. 🚭 Smoking is the single largest risk factor for oral cancer. Smokers are also roughly 3 to 6 times more likely to develop severe periodontitis than non-smokers.
🚭 Quitting smoking restores blood flow and oxygen to your gums, allowing them to heal, fight infection, and respond better to periodontal treatment.

We want to help you protect your gums, your smile, and your overall health. If you smoke, talk with your periodontist about ways to improve your oral health and reduce your risk.

πŸ’¦ A deep cleaning (also called scaling and root planing) is when a hygienist removes hardened tartar above and below the gumline, restoring the gums to a healthier state.
🦷 Keeping regular appointments can help prevent tartar buildup, but for patients who haven't had a cleaning in a while or who are prone to tartar buildup, a deep cleaning can restore oral health.

πŸ₯° If caught early enough, it can reverse gingivitis before it becomes gum disease.

🦷 Teeth getting longer is a sign of gum loss. But can gum loss be prevented?

πŸ‘‰ The answer is yes, but it is a matter of preventing further recession. The only way to prevent all gum recession is to keep your teeth and gums healthy before it starts. However, if it has begun, you can do things to keep it from becoming worse.
πŸͺ₯ Brushing twice a day and flossing may seem basic, but it goes a long way to helping your gums not recede. Oftentimes, gums recede due to brushing too hard, so reducing pressure helps prevent your gums from receding.

🦷 Additionally, if you have oral health issues, such as misalignment, having these issues corrected will also help slow or even stop recession.

🚭 Lastly, if you smoke, quitting will help your gums become healthier and prevent further gum recession.

🌬 Today is National Fresh Breath Day. Everyone wants fresh breath, but not everyone wants to maintain good oral health.
🦷πŸͺ₯ Yet, these two are directly linked. In fact, consistent bad breath is one sign that you may have periodontal disease forming.

πŸ‘… If your poor breath is not related to your gums, it could be that you need to scrape your tongue. Tongue scraping helps remove large amounts of bacteria and can freshen breath.
