Last week our Lifestyle Director gathered together our residents who were up for a craft and introduced them to air-dry clay. While they initially set out to make fruit coasters, the creative juices were flowing and everyone decided to go their own way, making cute little dishes with personal designs inside. You can really see the customization, from animals to cowboy hats.

Not only does working with clay exercise fine motor skills, it is also soothing and socially connecting. One of our residents initially chose to watch. After observing, not only did she join in, but she naturally stepped into a leadership role, demonstrating to other residents how to create decorative edges. This helped boost participation and encouraged confidence among the group. She also shared that she grew up in a bakery, helping her mother, and doing this activity was like baking a pie. These are the invaluable connections that naturally come living in community.

Once they are dry, our Lifestyle Director and residents will come back to paint them. Don’t you think they will be perfect little holders for jewelry, watches, glasses, trinkets?

Did you see our last post? We had some wonderful dancing during our Friday Happy Hour. But we had to showcase these moves from our wonderful resident Will. When the dance spirit strikes, you are unstoppable! ☺️

You know what we call dancing in a senior living community? A “triple-threat” activity! Dancing is physical, mental, and social. It combines exercise, engagement, interaction — and self-expression! Will is a testament that you can get all the those benefits standing or sitting 👏

Community is quite the buzz word these days, but for us it’s always been the main event. You know what impacts seniors the most? Connection. When we think of growing older what we want is happiness, health, and safety. But the reality is that happiness encourages health which prolongs safety. The bedrock of achieving happiness, health, and safety is human connection. There’s the evidence and also our intuition — humans just aren’t meant to be alone. And if this doesn’t show us why, then I don’t know what can! 🤩☺️🥰

A few pictures from our Root Beer Float Social last week. We enjoyed our delicious floats while playing movie trivia. Like a family game night, there’s something special about having a treat together, shouting out answers, and letting it lead to conversation, laughter, and recollecting favorite films and actors ✨🍨🎬☺️✨

What fun we had welcoming Jane and Vanessa from Coastal Post Acute, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center in Salinas, for our exercise class this week — they even brought us a post-workout treat. We are so lucky to have such skilled and dedicated community members who want to volunteer their time to spend with us. It is also wonderful to have new faces in our community, who encourage us to try new things. Their visit brought us together for a fun and uplifting experience — thank you Jane and Vanessa and Coastal Post Acute! ✨💪☺️

Did you see our post about our resident-suggested, impromptu community garden stroll last week? If not, please take a look. A community of walking buddies is even better than one! To make things even sweeter, one of our residents asked one of our caregivers to help him pick flowers from the garden. He then presented his bouquet to our Lifestyle Director as a thank you for encouraging and organizing the garden stroll. These are the kinds of connections we love to see. Because there is nothing more precious than a strong connection between residents and those who care for them ☀️💐☺️

Several residents mentioned the beautiful weather and that they would enjoy a walk outside. So before the day’s planned activities started, our Lifestyle Director gathered an enthusiastic group for a stroll along the path of our courtyard garden. Two of our caregivers joined to help. Not only did it add exercise to the day, but our Lifestyle Director noticed everyone seemed more awake and more positive. We love having a community where we can adjust our plans, where everyone jumps in with a helping hand, and where we can enjoy nature and exercise together. What a pleasant and uplifting way to start the day!

Just some snapshots from last week’s live music happy hour out on the patio. We listened to the Moon Glow Band, while basking in the sun and fresh air. If you want to hear the music, check out our last post! 💛

Because the weather was so nice, we had our live music happy hour outside last week. The Moon Glow Band performed, and it was truly a dreamy summer afternoon. Everyone enjoyed the fresh air, relaxed atmosphere, and each other’s company. Many of the residents shared that this was a particularly lovely Friday happy hour ☀️⛱️🎷🌼
