From California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC):

"As of January 1, 2026, the State of California officially recognizes CAMTC's certificate holders as health care providers. Recently enacted revisions to state law designate certified massage professionals as health care providers.

"This is a landmark achievement for our profession. California is now one of only three states to designate massage therapists as health care providers.

"State Assembly Members and Senators from both parties cast a total of 232 votes. Total bi-partisan votes were 232-0 in favor of the remarkable professionals we certify. The amended law extends CAMTC's authority to implement state law through January 1, 2030."

This was a long time coming and way overdue.

Tech neck syndrome is the price many of us pay for using technology. Massage can help with the symptoms.

From the Summer 2024 issue of the American Massage Therapy Massage Therapy Journal:

"In our modern era, the escalating integration of technology into all facets of our lives is giving rise to a heightened risk of painful imbalances within the neck and shoulder girdle. This increasing reliance on technology is not only causing symptoms to multiply, but is also fostering more specific and chronic forms of pain across many different body systems.

"These symptoms are making an appearance with unprecedented speed—especially among adolescents—and this confluence of risk factors has precipitated the emergence of a novel and widespread health concern known as tech neck syndrome (TNS). Symptoms of this condition include pain and stiffness in the neck and shoulders, headaches, neck muscle spasms, back pain, numbness or tingling in the neck and pinched nerves."

Per the governor's recent ruling, we no longer have to wear masks at work. A client yesterday who I started seeing after COVID hit looked at me in surprise and said, "So that's what you look like!" It'll be nice to see the entire faces of some clients for the first time.

"One of my clients, a professional runner, will be competing in the marathon at the Olympic Trials in Houston Saturday. I joked at our last session Tuesday, 'If you don't do as well as you want, you can blame me.' Her reply: 'You're the reason I'll be at the starting line.' Made my day."

I'm back to work in Salinas at 115 Cayuga Street, near the courthouse and the Steinbeck House. I'm in a wellness center with an acupuncturist, naturopath, and psychologist. Office hours are Monday 7-5, Wednesday 7-5, Thursday 7-12, Friday 7-12, and Saturday 7-9:30 and 3-5.
