🌿 Preserving a Historical Cemetery 🌿
In May, our team of expert installers had the honor of completing restoration work at Old Settler's Cemetery in Charlotte, NC, one of the city’s most treasured historic landmarks.
After vandals damaged two of the four original marble obelisks dating back to the 1850s, we carefully reset and leveled each monument, restoring their dignity and presence. In addition, we installed 13 new restoration monuments, helping preserve centuries of history for future generations to appreciate.
Established in the late 1700s, before Charlotte was officially founded in 1768, Old Settler's Cemetery is the city’s first municipal burial ground. It is the final resting place of many early settlers and influential figures, including Thomas Polk, who was a key figure in the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, as well as early community leaders Nathaniel Alexander and Greene Washington Caldwell.
While the cemetery no longer accepts new interments, it remains a place for reflection, remembrance, and historical appreciation. Visitors can explore its rich past through informative markers while walking along brick-lined paths beneath the shade of majestic oak trees.
We are grateful for the opportunity to play a small part in preserving such an important piece of Charlotte’s heritage.
