Knee pain isn’t always “just arthritis.”

If your knees have been aching, feeling unstable, or bothering you during everyday activities, the problem may not actually start in your knee. In many cases, poor core strength and reduced stability can place extra stress on your knees, leading to pain and discomfort.

In today’s video, Dr. Mike demonstrates a simple exercise that can help improve lower core strength and support better knee stability. While this exercise may be beneficial for many people, it’s important to remember that every case is different.

If your knee pain isn’t improving, keeps coming back, or is limiting your daily activities, don’t just live with it. Let Dr. Mike identify the root cause and develop a treatment plan that’s right for you.

Don’t Forget About Your Shoulders!

Healthy shoulders aren’t just about strength they’re about mobility, too. Your shoulder blade (scapula) plays a huge role in helping your shoulder move the way it’s designed to. When the shoulder and scapula aren’t moving properly, it can lead to pain, stiffness, weakness, and even neck or upper back discomfort.

Whether you’re lifting weights, working at a desk, playing sports, or simply reaching for something on a high shelf, good shoulder mobility is essential for everyday life.

If you’re noticing limited range of motion, nagging shoulder pain, or discomfort that just won’t go away, chiropractic care may help restore proper movement, improve joint function, and get you back to doing what you love.

Don’t let shoulder pain slow you down! Schedule an appointment with Dr. Mike at Chesapeake Chiropractic and get moving again!

🌡️ Extreme Heat Can Take a Serious Toll on Your Body
When temperatures soar, it’s not just uncomfortable it can also make certain health conditions feel even worse. Many people notice increased pain and fatigue during periods of excessive heat, especially those living with arthritis, autoimmune conditions, chronic inflammation, migraines, or other musculoskeletal issues.
Hot weather can also increase your risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, so be sure to take the proper precautions:
💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day.🌳 Limit time outdoors during peak afternoon heat.❄️ Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas.👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.❤️ Check on family members, friends, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to extreme temperatures.📍 Know where the nearest cooling centers are in your community in case you need them.
And don’t ignore those aches and pains that seem to worsen during the heat. If your back, neck, shoulders, or joints are giving you trouble, keep Dr. Mike’s contact information close by. Chiropractic care can help improve mobility, reduce discomfort, and get you feeling like yourself again.

As temperatures rise, most people know they should drink more water. But hydration isn’t just about staying cool it’s about helping your body function at its best.
Your muscles, joints, discs, and connective tissues all rely on proper hydration to stay healthy and move efficiently. When you’re dehydrated, muscles can fatigue more quickly, flexibility may decrease, and your risk of strains, cramps, and other injuries can increase.
Whether you’re working in the yard, enjoying a day on the water, hitting the golf course, exercising, or simply spending more time outdoors, make hydration a priority this summer.
A good rule of thumb: Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to start drinking water. Stay ahead of dehydration and give your body the support it needs to perform and recover properly.
And if aches, pains, or injuries are slowing you down, Chesapeake Chiropractic is here to help keep you moving all summer long.

🚶‍♂️ Mobility Matters! 🚶‍♀️

As we move through our daily routines, it's easy to focus on strength and fitness while overlooking one of the most important aspects of long-term health: mobility.

Simple at-home exercises, such as the modified Blackburn exercise can be a great way to help improve posture, shoulder function, and overall movement quality. Adding mobility work to your routine can help keep your body moving more efficiently and may reduce the risk of unnecessary aches and pains.

However, it's important to remember that home exercises are just one piece of the puzzle. While mobility exercises can be beneficial, they do not replace regular chiropractic care. Restrictions in the joints, muscle imbalances, and movement dysfunctions often require professional evaluation and treatment to address the root cause of the problem.

Dr. Mike encourages patients to stay active, stay mobile, and stay proactive with their health. Combine a good mobility routine with regular chiropractic visits, and you'll give your body the best opportunity to move and feel its best.

If you're dealing with stiffness, limited range of motion, or recurring discomfort, Chesapeake Chiropractic is here to help.

Spring and summer are finally here, which means more time outside doing the things we enjoy. Boating, fishing, yardwork, gardening, hiking, coaching sports, long days on the water. It all sounds relaxing until your back, shoulders, neck, or knees remind you that your body still has to do the work.

A lot of injuries this time of year don’t happen from one major accident. They happen from repetitive movement, twisting the wrong way, lifting awkwardly, poor posture, or simply overdoing it after being less active during the colder months.

Here’s a quick tip from Dr. Mike:Before jumping into any outdoor activity, take a few minutes to loosen up and pay attention to how you’re moving. Bend with your legs, avoid excessive twisting while lifting or reaching, switch sides often during repetitive activities like casting or raking, and don’t ignore those early warning signs your body gives you.

The goal is to enjoy the season not spend it sore, stiff, or injured.

And just in case your body reminds you that you’re not 21 anymore keep Dr. Mike’s number handy this spring and summer. You may be glad you did.

Mobility Matters!

When most people think about staying healthy and pain-free, they focus on strength or cardio but mobility is the foundation that supports it all.

One of the most effective and accessible ways to improve mobility is by using elastic resistance bands. They’re simple, portable, and incredibly effective for building stability, control, and joint health.

Here are a few key movements to incorporate into your routine:

• Front Raises – Strengthen the shoulders while promoting controlled movement through a healthy range of motion
• Lateral Raises – Improve shoulder stability and help reduce strain during everyday activities
• External Rotations – Support rotator cuff health and posture, especially if you sit or work at a desk often
• Internal Rotations – Balance shoulder strength and improve joint function

These exercises are excellent for maintenance and injury prevention, and they can be done just about anywhere- at home, in the gym, or even while traveling.

That said, mobility work is just one piece of the puzzle.

Regular visits to your chiropractor ensure your body is moving the way it’s supposed to. Adjustments, assessments, and personalized care plans help address underlying issues not just the symptoms.

Take care of your body between visits but don’t skip the visits themselves.

Spring is here, and that means yardwork season is in full swing. While it’s a great way to get outside and stay active, it’s also one of the most common times we see preventable aches and injuries.

Think about everything that comes with spring cleanup. Raking leaves, pulling weeds, mulching, lifting bags of soil, trimming hedges, pushing mowers, even planting flowers. These movements might seem simple, but repetitive strain, awkward positions, and improper lifting can quickly lead to issues with your lower back, shoulders, neck, and even your knees.

A few things to keep in mind while you’re getting your yard in shape:

✔ Bend at your hips and knees not your lower back. Keep your chest up and your back as neutral as possible.
✔ Keep objects close to your body when lifting (bags of mulch, pots, tools). The farther away it is, the more strain on your spine.
✔ Avoid twisting while lifting or carrying pivot your feet instead.
✔ Break up long sessions. Yardwork is a workout, whether you think of it that way or not.
✔ Switch sides often when raking or shoveling to avoid overuse on one side of the body.

Even when you do everything right, your body can still get tight, sore, or out of alignment. That’s where chiropractic care can help keeping your body moving the way it’s supposed to so you can stay active and pain-free.

Take care of your yard, but don’t forget to take care of yourself too.
