Bright packages, long ingredient lists, lab-made flavors… these aren’t real, traditional foods—they’re products. Designed for shelf life, convenience, and profit, not for nourishing your body.

For thousands of years, humans thrived on simple, whole foods. Meat, eggs, vegetables, fruits, properly prepared grains—foods you recognize. Now, so much of what fills our carts is ultra-processed and far removed from anything natural.

If it wasn’t food back then, your body still doesn’t recognize it as food now.

Go back to the basics. Real food fuels real health.

Coffee can have amazing health benefits — antioxidants, improved focus, and more. But something most people don’t realize is that many conventional coffee beans are heavily sprayed with pesticides. Because coffee is grown in large monoculture farms, chemicals are often used to control pests and increase yield.

When those beans are sprayed, residues can end up in the coffee you drink every single day. That’s why where you source your coffee matters. Choosing high-quality, organic, and responsibly grown beans helps you enjoy the benefits of coffee without the added chemical burden.

Your morning cup should energize your body — not expose it to toxins. ☕🌱

Our recent GAPS Diet Food Pyramid (see our pinned post!) was such a success that we decided to make one for the GAPS Lifestyle. After all, GAPS is not just about the food we consume, but also how we live our day-to-day life.

The GAPS lifestyle is about so much more than just what is on your plate. It is a whole-body approach to supporting gut health, restoring balance, and creating habits that support healing.

At the foundation are real, nourishing foods, locally sourced whole foods, quality animal proteins, healthy fats, meat stock, fermented foods, and simple cooking techniques that make nutrients easier to digest and absorb. Seasonal eating and traditional preparation methods are a big part of how this way of living supports the gut.

But the lifestyle does not stop with food. Sleep, circadian rhythm, movement, breathwork, time in nature, and sunlight all support the nervous system and digestion. Reducing toxic exposures through cleaner home and hygiene products and supporting the body’s natural detox pathways can also make a meaningful difference.

Community, connection, and stress management are other important layers. When the body feels safe and supported, digestion and healing can happen more efficiently.

At the top of it all is consistency over perfection. Small choices are made daily, nourishing meals, getting outside, managing stress, prioritizing rest, and creating the foundation for lasting gut health.

The GAPS lifestyle is ultimately about returning to the basics our bodies were designed for. What’s your favorite GAPS lifestyle habit you try to stick to daily? Let us know in the comments!
