Today’s act of self-care?

Putting my phone on Do Not Disturb. 😅

As someone who spends most days helping others, answering calls, returning messages, managing a business, and showing up for my family and community, I sometimes forget that I deserve a little peace too.

The world did not end.
The office did not catch on fire.
Nobody filed a missing person report.

What did happen was I got a few uninterrupted moments to breathe, think, and recharge.

A gentle reminder that you do not have to be accessible 24/7 to be a good person, parent, friend, provider, or business owner.

Protecting your peace is not selfish. It’s necessary. 💜

Now if you’ll excuse me, my phone and I are currently not speaking. 😂

💕 A Personal Note 💕

Today marks two years since we lost my cousin, Allen.

As I sat here announcing the winner of our Community Hero Giveaway, I couldn’t help but smile when the wheel landed on Doug Bixenman.

Maybe it’s coincidence. Maybe it’s simply timing. But today, it felt like a little reminder that the people we love never truly leave us. Their impact lives on through the memories they created, the lives they touched, and the lessons they left behind.

This giveaway was created to recognize the good people in our community—the ones who quietly make a difference in the lives of others. On a day that is especially meaningful to my family, it feels fitting to be celebrating kindness, service, and community.

Allen is missed every day, but especially today. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who participated, shared nominations, and helped shine a light on the incredible people who make Salisbury such a special place.

And congratulations again to Doug. 🎉💚

Sometimes life has a way of reminding us that love, memories, and the people we’ve lost are never very far away.

🖤 To Our Community 🖤

Lately, our community has been carrying more grief than anyone should have to bear.

Unexpected losses. Tragic circumstances. Families whose lives have changed in an instant. Friends left searching for answers. Children trying to understand the unimaginable. First responders, law enforcement, dispatchers, EMS personnel, healthcare workers, teachers, clergy, and community members who continue showing up despite the weight they carry.

Today, we were reminded once again how fragile life can be.

In moments like these, there are often no perfect words. There is only the reality that many hearts are hurting.

Grief affects each of us differently. Some people cry. Some become quiet. Some stay busy. Some feel angry. Some feel numb. All of these responses are human.

As a community, let’s continue to show one another grace. Check on your friends. Call your family. Hug your children a little tighter. Reach out to those who may be struggling in silence.

And to those who have been on the front lines of these tragedies—the first responders, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, healthcare workers, volunteers, and community members who have answered the call time and time again—thank you. The things you carry matter, and so does your well-being.

Tonight, many are grieving. Many are hurting. Many are searching for peace.

May we continue to stand together, support one another, and remember that no one should have to carry these burdens alone.

Please keep all affected families, friends, and responders in your thoughts and prayers.

💙 Men’s Mental Health Matters 💙

Men are often taught to be strong, to push through, to carry the weight, and to stay silent.

But strength isn’t pretending you’re okay when you’re not.

Strength is asking for help.
Strength is having the hard conversation.
Strength is admitting when you’re struggling.
Strength is choosing healing.

This Men’s Health Week, let’s remember that mental health is health.

To the fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, first responders, veterans, farmers, laborers, and every man carrying more than anyone realizes—you don’t have to carry it alone.

If you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, grieving, or simply not feeling like yourself, reaching out is not weakness. It’s courage.

💙 Check on the men in your life.
💙 Ask twice when you ask how they’re doing.
💙 Listen without judgment.
💙 Remind them that help is available.

At Root Awakening LLC, we’re here to support mental wellness across the lifespan because everyone deserves a place to be heard.

🇺🇸 D-Day: A Reminder of Courage, Sacrifice, and Resilience 🇺🇸

On June 6, 1944, more than 156,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, in one of the largest military operations in history. Many of those young men were barely older than our teenagers today. They stepped into uncertainty, fear, and unimaginable circumstances because they believed in something bigger than themselves.

Today, we remember those who never made it home, those who carried the physical and emotional wounds of war, and the families forever changed by their sacrifice.

As a mental health provider, I often think about the resilience of the human spirit. We talk a lot about strength, but true strength isn’t the absence of fear—it’s moving forward despite it. It’s getting up after you’ve been knocked down. It’s carrying burdens while continuing to show up for the people you love.

While none of us should have to fight the battles they fought, many people are fighting battles that can’t be seen—grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, heartbreak, loss, and uncertainty.

Today, let’s honor those heroes by remembering their sacrifice, showing gratitude for our freedoms, and extending compassion to those around us who may be carrying invisible wounds.

❤️ Sometimes the bravest thing a person does isn’t storm a beach—it’s asking for help.

We remember. We honor. We are grateful.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their service and legacy deserve our gratitude—not just today, but every day. ❤️🤍💙

At Root Awakening Mental Health, we also believe that caring for ourselves allows us to better care for others.

Our office will be closed this week as we take time to rest, reset, and spend meaningful time with family. We will reopen and return messages beginning June 1st.

Thank you for your patience, support, and for trusting us to walk alongside you in your mental health journey.

Wishing everyone a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Memorial Day week.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call/text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.

Happy Mother’s Day from Root Awakening Mental Health 💐

Today, we celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, bonus moms, foster moms, grieving moms, single moms, working moms, exhausted moms, and every woman carrying love for others in ways the world may never fully see.

Motherhood is beautiful… but it can also be overwhelming, lonely, healing, messy, emotional, and incredibly heavy at times. Behind the school drop-offs, packed lunches, sports schedules, bedtime routines, and “I’m fine” smiles are women carrying so much while still showing up every single day.

To the moms who are thriving…
To the moms who are struggling quietly…
To the moms healing their own trauma while raising their children differently…
To the moms surviving on coffee, strength, and pure love…

You are seen.
You are valued.
And you are doing better than you think. 🤍

Today, give yourself the same compassion you so freely give everyone else.

Drop a 💕 in the comments and tell us one thing you love about being a mom — or one thing another mother did that changed your life.
