I had to take a little break from psychedelic books (though this work has implications for the psychedelic process) and give a shout-out to this book! It has been a while since a book so thoroughly blew my mind. I have been aware of Jung's work for some time now, but I had no idea how in-depth, expansive, and, quite frankly, genius it is.
This book was the perfect introduction to his life's work. I was riveted as I read about his experience growing up, his relationship with religion, his never-ending questioning and exploration, and his integrity in exploring the depths of his soul. I have not come across anyone as capable of introspection as this man.
I particularly enjoyed the chapters on his home, referred to as The Tower, Sigmund Freud, his travels, and the appendix filled with letters he wrote and exchanged with friends and loved ones.
This is a great place to start for anyone even remotely interested in Jung. It reads like a story and has a sense of linear progression without diving too deep into the complexity of his work. This opened a door for me, and sparked more purchases of his writing as I continue to familiarize myself with the depths of Jungian work!
