Tell Select Health to reconsider its impact on Supervised Therapists and Counselors in Utah:

📣 Your voice matters — and right now, Select Health needs to hear it.

Select Health's Policy #3 restricts how CSWs and supervised interns can participate in clinical care, putting Utah's behavioral health training pipeline at risk. Fewer training opportunities now could mean fewer clinicians down the road.

We're calling on Select Health to reconsider how this policy affects students, supervisors, and the clients they serve.

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and Select Health has a policy going into effect Nov. 1st that will greatly limit access to care for mental health services to Select Health customers that will cascade down to all Utahns seeking mental health services. Thanks to UAMFT for this post:

September is Su***de Prevention Month, but we can't save lives if insurance companies block people from getting help.

In Utah, where su***de remains a leading cause of youth deaths, new SelectHealth policy changes will stop qualified, board-supervised associate therapists and student interns from taking on new clients for initial visits.

This creates a dangerous barrier to accessing mental health care. While therapists calendars sit empty, families in crisis are pushed onto months-long waitlists or into overcrowded ERs.

Telling someone in crisis to wait months for care is unacceptable. Access to care IS su***de prevention, and Utah families deserve timely help, not artificial roadblocks!

Thank you to UAMFT for this critically important awareness:

Even when your therapist has immediate availability, insurance policies can create unnecessary barriers to care. Select Health’s new policy requires a supervising therapist to perform initial evaluations for reimbursable care, creating artificial waitlists that delay access to the support you need. We believe mental health care should be accessible when you need it most and without insurance delays getting in the way.

Have you or a loved one experienced unnecessary waitlists due to insurance? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.

Help us advocate for better access to mental health care by sharing this post and contacting Select Health to ask for policy changes that put patients first.

We are alarmed that this Select Health policy is going to go into effect Nov. 1st. This limits access to mental health care for Select Health customers, and eventually will cascade down to all Utahns who are seeking mental health care services. At Progressive Paths Therapy we urge current and potential future clients who are Select Health cutomers to call your insurance and complain about this policy that limits access to care. We also encourage you to contact your legislators regarding this, they will be addressing this in the next legislative session. We thank the UAMFT for this critically important post:
