Complex research requires strong methodology and an understanding of the history that created the records.

African-American Research, coordinated by LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson, JD, LLM, CG, CGL, FASG, FUGA, is a skill-building course focused on methodology and strategies for meeting the Genealogical Proof Standard when researching ancestors of African descent.

Through foundational instruction and case studies, students will explore the law and history of American slavery, strategies for antebellum research, and unique records associated with Louisiana Creole, Native American Freedmen, and West Indian communities.

Build the knowledge and skills to approach challenging research with greater confidence.

Registration opens September 12. https://academy.ugagenealogy.org/courses/african-american-research/

Your ancestor’s land may hold a lot more than property lines.

Deeds and other land records can reveal relationships, neighbors, migration patterns, economic circumstances, and clues that may be difficult to find anywhere else.

In Advanced Research Tools: Land Records, coordinated by Rebecca Whitman Koford, CG, CGL, you’ll explore land development, laws, acquisition, state and federal land records, maps, platting, and more.

If land records have ever left you wondering, “What am I actually looking at?” this course can help you turn those documents into genealogical evidence.

Registration opens September 12. https://academy.ugagenealogy.org/courses/advanced-research-tools-land-records-2/

When the records don’t hand you the answer, it’s time to think like an advanced researcher.

Advanced Genealogical Methods, coordinated by Paul K. Graham, CG, AG, CGG, is designed for genealogists ready to dig deeper into evidence, tackle difficult identities and relationships, and work with populations where the usual records may be scarce.

You’ll explore advanced research techniques, learn to assemble and evaluate evidence, and strengthen your ability to document conclusions through written proof summaries.

Ready to take your research skills to the next level?

Registration opens September 12. https://academy.ugagenealogy.org/courses/advanced-genealogical-methods-3/

And speaking of research, mark your calendar: registration for our Spring 2027 courses opens September 12. We look forward to learning and researching with you this spring! https://slig.ugagenealogy.org/courses/
