🌾 transitioning to the yin season 🌿

In a few weeks we will begin the subtle shift from summer into fall and the descending of yang into the season of yin.

Late summer is traditionally seen as the season of harvest, a time when the hard work of spring and summer comes to fruition. In TCM, this concept extends beyond the physical act of harvesting crops to encompass the harvesting of energy, health, and balance within ourselves.

Just as farmers gather crops, we are called to harvest the energy we’ve cultivated throughout the year. This is the time to nourish our bodies, reflect on our growth, and prepare for the coming transition into autumn. Preparing not only what we would like to harvest from the year thus far, but also what we would like to release physically and energetically in the fall.

By aligning ourselves with the Earth element, we can create a strong foundation that will carry us through the rest of the year.

Ten whole years of Valenti Acupuncture 🥹

I recently realized it’s been 10 years since I opened this practice. When I look back at the Amanda who started it, I hold so much love for her vision, perseverance, and passion.

Opening was both a milestone and an immediate test of strength. Just two months in, my mother fell into a comatose state from West Nile Encephalitis. I canceled my busiest week yet, calling 13 new patients to tell them I didn’t know when I’d return. Over the next seven months I traveled back and forth to care for her, and continue to treat patients. Less than a year into my practice, she passed away. It’s a testament to my patients’ loyalty that this little business survived. We still treat some of the patients I had to cancel on during that time.

Three years later, COVID brought a different kind of strain. I hesitated to seek financial support, assuming I’d reopen quickly as an essential worker, but the uncertainty took its toll. Over 200,000 small businesses closed in the pandemic’s first year alone. Fortunately we weren’t one of them, and I’m endlessly grateful for that.

I’ve led a team since 2021, and this past year the most important investment I’ve made is in myself as a leader. I stepped back from patient care to focus on the business and finally pour some qi back into my own cup, including navigating my own multi-year journey with infertility through IVF treatments in Mexico.

There are currents in a business, and I’m learning to flow with them, one day at a time. Running a small business will challenge you in ways you can’t predict, even after 10 years. Thank you to my coach and friend Charlie Warner for helping me grow as an entrepreneur, to my team for their dedication, and most of all to our patients, for choosing to be here and trusting us with your health. 💛

I posted on our story that we’re looking to start adding group classes, and it turns out we know a lot of yoga teachers 🫣😆

in june we will be transitioning the pilates room into an open space and we’re thinking of adding a few movement classes.

thinking 💭 an early morning vinyasa style flow class & in the evening a more restorative yin class

I’ve always enjoyed flexing my creative side when it came to acupuncture marketing, the stock images just don’t do it for me.

These tiny tools we use are so beautiful & I couldn’t help but want to show them off in fun and unique ways - like needling fruit 🍉 ✨

Thinking of our next photo project 👀 nature is just asking to be poked 🪵 🌿 🍄‍🟫

Any creatives out there have fun ideas for our next shoot?

Are you a regular of Dr. Hartzman?

Have you been wondering “who do I see now!?”

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

After three wonderful years with our practice, Dr. Maura Hartzman will be moving back to her home state of North Carolina and has completed her final shift at Valenti Acupuncture.

Maura has been an extraordinary presence, not just as a provider, but as a healer who showed up fully for every patient she served. The relationships she has built with you mean the world to us, and we know this transition may bring up real feelings. Please know we don’t take that lightly, we’re feelin’ em too!

While there is truly no replacing Dr. Hartzman, we want to make sure you continue to receive the exceptional care you deserve. We have two outstanding providers who are welcoming new and existing patients, and we’d love to help you find the right fit.

We encourage you to reach out and schedule a visit with whichever provider feels right for you or give us a call and we’ll help guide you. We’re happy to walk you through the transition and answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for trusting us with your care. It has been an honor to be part of your health journey, and that commitment does not change.
