SVCHS is a member of the Virginia Primary Care Association and is a JCAHO accredited institution. SVCHS is governed by a community board and our clinics are not-for-profit Community Health Centers. There are almost 3,500 similar centers nationwide, with 65 serving Virginia. SVCHS is a fee-for-service practice just like any doctor's office. To assist the center in providing access to medical, behavioral health, and dental care to all residents regardless of income, SVCHS receives an annual grant from the U.S. Being a community-based organization, we extend an invitation to you and your family to use our facility. Today we’re introducing you to Sachin Patil, DMD, who is a dentist at the Southwest Virginia Dental Health Center in Saltville, VA.

Sounds official, but what does it actually mean?

A referral generally means your primary care provider is connecting you with a specialist or another healthcare service for additional evaluation or care. Some insurance plans also require a formal referral before certain specialist services will be covered.

The word: SYSTOLIC

When your blood pressure is checked, the systolic pressure is the top number. It measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart pumps blood out.

Normal: Less than 120
Elevated: 120 to 129
High Blood Pressure: 130 or higher

So the next time someone tells you your blood pressure is “120 over 80,” you’ll know exactly what that first number represents!
