Qualietto "Qualie" Quarles

Qualietto "Qualie" Quarles, 62, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, friendship, and love. He was a devoted father, proud veteran, respected martial artist, skilled outdoorsman, and a man whose generosity touched countless lives.

Born into the Quarles family and raised in Ballinger, Texas, Qualie was known for his strong work ethic, kind spirit, and unwavering willingness to help others. He served his country honorably as a member of the National Guard, carrying that same sense of duty and commitment throughout his life.

Above all else, Qualie loved his family. He was a devoted father to Tony, Tamarah, and Kaden, who were the center of his world and his greatest source of pride.

A dedicated teacher and practitioner of Tae Kwon Do, Qualie earned the rank of Second-Degree Black Belt. He shared his knowledge, discipline, and passion for martial arts with students and friends alike, inspiring many through both instruction and example.

Qualie was also an expert fisherman who loved spending time on the water and sharing his knowledge with others. He taught and mentored people of all ages in the art of fishing, helping many catch the biggest fish of their lives and creating memories that will last forever.

As a business owner, he delivered firewood to families and businesses throughout the area. Whether the weather was harsh or times were difficult, people knew they could count on "Q" to show up and get the job done.

Blessed with a mechanic’s touch, Qualie could fix almost anything with a motor and generously shared his talent for making things run again with anyone in need. But he was more than a mechanic. He was an inventor and an artist in his craft. With creativity, ingenuity, and a natural ability to see solutions where others saw problems, Qualie could design, modify, and build things in ways that reflected both his intelligence and imagination. He took great pride in creating, improving, and bringing ideas to life through his hands and his mechanical talent.

He will be remembered as a true friend. Someone who valued meaningful conversations, genuine connections, and taking the time to listen. His deep faith in God guided his life and provided comfort and strength to those around him.

Qualie was preceded in death by his parents, Frank James Quarles and Gracie Mae Clark Quarles; his grandmother, Flossie "Nannie" Clark; and his brothers, Quantico "Tico" Quarles and Queandro "Cha-Che" Quarles.

He is survived by his children, Tony, Tamarah, and Kaden; his sister, Quincarlita Dos Santos; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Though he will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the lives he touched, and the love he shared will continue to live on in all who knew him.

A memorial service celebrating Qualie's life will be held on June 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Jesus Christ Church in Ballinger, Texas.

Janet Ruth Wilburn

Janet Ruth Wilburn, 68, of Big Lake, Tx went home to meet Jesus on May 31, 2026 due to medical complications.

Janet was born in Dumas, Texas, in 1958 to Alvin Clyde McCaleb and Sally Pearl McCaleb. Raised in a loving Christian home, she cherished the many family adventures, including long road trips and bike rides with her parents.

She graduated from Dumas High School as a Demon and went on to attend Texas Tech University. It was during her college years that she met the love of her life, Warren Wilburn. In February 1978, while attending mutual friend, Vicki Richmond’s father’s birthday party in Big Lake, Janet instantly connected with Warren. He proposed just four months later in June, and the couple married on a snowy September 23, 1978, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Dumas.

Janet and Warren were eager to build a family, and their children became the center of their world. Though she never got to meet the child she lost early in her first pregnancy, she is now reunited with that little one in Heaven. Their daughters, Lesley (born May 6, 1980) and Kendra (born July 18, 1983), brought them immense joy.

While raising her young family, Janet worked alongside Dr. Jack Wright in his clinic. She later served as secretary for the family business, W&W Welding, for 25 years. She then pursued further education to become a licensed appraiser and real estate agent, a career she enjoyed for many years until health issues slowed her down.

Janet had many talents and passions. She loved playing the organ, drawing, and bringing laughter and humor to those around her. However, her greatest joy in life was being “Gramma.” She treasured every moment with her grandchildren and made it a priority to attend every concert, ball game, BB gun shoot, ceremony, and banquet. She taught them piano, told them stories from her life and their own childhoods, and showered them with love.

A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Big Lake, Janet faithfully served by playing the organ, encouraging others, and serving on the Beautification Committee.

She will be remembered for her radiant smile and her ability to lighten any situation with her quick wit and warm humor. Her family will forever cherish the words, “I love you more.” She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and her presence will be deeply missed every day. Her memory will live on through the stories and love she leaves behind.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Clyde McCaleb and Sally Pearl McCaleb.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Warren Wilburn; her sister, Kathy Strawn and husband David; her brother, Nathan McCaleb and wife Karen; sisters-in-law Carolyn Maddux and Nancy Ratliff; daughters Lesley (James) and Kendra and husband Zack; grandchildren Payton, Joshua, Whittley, Huntley, and Baxley; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of dear friends who were like family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at First Baptist Church, Big Lake, Tx from 5-7 p.m. The funeral will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at First Baptist Church, Big Lake, TX at 10 a.m., followed by graveside at Glen Rest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Big Lake Memorial/Beautification Fund.
