Who am I?
My name is Emily McKenzie, LCDC. I have worked for a local treatment center for about 4 years in San Angelo, Texas. I enjoyed working in the Intensive Residential Treatment setting and Detoxification Service setting, but I felt it was time for me to move on to bigger things for myself and my family, so I accepted a telehealth job with another treatment center doing Intensive Outpatient Counseling, and they encouraged me to begin my private practice as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. So here I am!
Why Chemical Dependency Counseling?
When I was 18 years old, and just graduated high school, I was going to school to become a counselor, and I switched majors several times, nursing, education, and many more.... but when I met my husband about 6 years ago, he was a struggling alcoholic. I jumped into Al-Anon, getting a sponsor, working the 12-steps and going to AA meetings with him. Now, he is 6 years sober, and he no longer struggles from the disease of addiction. He is a free man today because of the help he had from Detoxification Services, Intensive Residential Treatment, and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Services. I am now able to give back to the community, individuals, and treatment programs that helped save his life!
How my name came about?
My mom passed away on June 6, 2023, and I love the songs "If I Die Young" and "If I Die Young Part 2" from The Band Perry and those songs helped me through her passing. I was given the opportunity to speak at her service and the song says "there's no such thing as enough time" and I told her to hold the light for us. That has stuck with me since the time she left us too soon and Find Your Light Counseling kept coming to mind... so I went with it!
What services do I offer?
Substance Use and Alcohol Use Disorder Counseling, in-person and TeleHealth visits.
