A client came in carrying something heavier than the usual daily stress.

“I quit my job,” he told me. “And it looks like it’s going to necessitate some stressful litigation.”

We talked briefly, then began the massage.

Near the end of the session, he told me he was feeling some intense emotion.
Then he named it.

“I feel angry.”

I slowed my pace.

I didn’t ask him why. I didn’t interpret the anger or try to soften it. I simply said:
“I’ll sit with you in this anger.”

And we stayed there.

This side of massage therapy rarely appears in technique manuals.

People arrive at the table in the middle of their lives. A resignation. A lawsuit. A loss. A diagnosis. What they carry outside enters the room with them.

My role isn’t to counsel someone through those experiences. I’m a massage therapist, and that boundary matters.

But staying in my lane doesn’t require becoming emotionally absent.

I can slow my hands. I can listen. I can leave silence where silence belongs. I can create enough room for a client to feel what he’s already feeling without asking him to explain it, fix it, or push it aside.

Sometimes holding space is that concrete.

“I’ll sit with you in this anger.”

And then you stay.

Have you ever thought about an old teacher, mentor, or someone who changed your life?

Maybe you started to write a message, then stopped.
"It's been too long."
Send it anyway.

This morning, I received a message from a former student I hadn't heard from in years. She wanted me to know that lessons from long ago still shape her work today.

You rarely get to know what stayed with someone.

Your gratitude might remind a teacher why they taught. It might brighten a difficult season. It might be exactly what they needed to hear.

Kind words don't expire.
If someone made a difference in your life, tell them. Today.

"Everything looks good."

My longtime dentist gave me that clean bill of health today. No cavities, no fuss.

We even marveled at how well the dental work she did nearly twenty years ago looks today!

That is exactly what preventive selfcare sounds like.

We don't wait for a toothache to schedule a cleaning. We go to keep our teeth healthy.

Massage deserves that same regular care. You don't have to wait until your back is locked up or you are in pain to get on the table.

Regular bodywork simply helps you stay ahead of the daily wear and tear. And stress.

Taking care of your body today keeps you moving comfortably tomorrow.

Marin has a different rhythm over the Fourth of July week.

Some people are heading out of town. Others are staying close to home, enjoying quieter streets while they last.

It's also one of the few weeks of the year when your schedule might finally have a little breathing room.

If you've been meaning to book a massage but life has kept getting in the way, this is a good week to do it.

I'll be in the studio in downtown San Anselmo, through the holiday weekend, and I still have appointments available.

How about celebrating freedom from stress?
