Dr. Lopez at Amelia Hi from San Antonio! My team and I are here to make it easy for you throughout your entire journey.

There’s something powerful about hearing a patient say, “I have absolutely no regrets.”
She knew she was ready when she was ready to feel comfortable in her body, and from there, our goal was to make sure she felt heard, informed, and supported through every step of the process.
Her advice to anyone considering surgery? Start with the consultation. Sometimes that first conversation is exactly what you need to figure out what’s right for you.

More fat removed doesn’t always mean a better result.
When I’m doing liposuction, I’m thinking about proportion, not just how much fat I can take out. Some areas need more definition, while others need to keep some fullness to create the shape we’re after.
For me, good body contouring is knowing what to remove and, just as importantly, what to leave alone.

Recovery is about more than what happens in the operating room.
We love hearing a patient talk about how supported she felt not only by her family at home, but by our Amelia team throughout the process. From staying on top of medications and compression to simply having someone there to help with the next step, the right support system can make such a difference during recovery.
No one should feel like they’re navigating this part of their journey alone.

You can build muscle in the gym, but you can’t exercise away a significant amount of loose skin.
I’m always going to recommend strength training as part of a good body contouring plan. Building muscle can improve tone and even help fill out a small amount of loose skin. But when there’s more skin than your frame can realistically fill, that’s where an arm lift can make the difference.
The goal is to remove what the gym can’t, so you can actually see more of the work you’ve already put in.

Breast implants need support to stay where we want them.
When an implant drops below the natural breast fold, that’s what we call bottoming out. It can happen when the implant is too large for the tissue supporting it, the fold has been disrupted, or the breast changes over time.
When I’m correcting bottoming out, I’m not just moving the implant back up. I’m looking at why that support was lost in the first place so we can rebuild the fold and create a more stable result.

Liposuction can make cellulite more noticeable, but it doesn’t happen to everyone.
Cellulite is caused in part by internal bands that pull down on the skin and create dimpling. When liposuction removes volume underneath the skin, those existing dimples or ripples can sometimes become more visible, especially when the skin is already loose.
That’s why I look at more than just the amount of fat before recommending liposuction. Skin quality and existing cellulite matter too, and some patients may benefit from an additional treatment to address those concerns.

A tummy tuck scar is designed with what you’ll want to wear after surgery in mind.
For a standard tummy tuck, I place the incision low, just above the pelvic area, and let it follow the natural curves of the body so it can typically stay hidden under most bathing suits and underwear.
The exact scar pattern depends on how much extra skin we need to address, but my goal is always to keep the scar as low and discreet as possible while still getting the result we want.

Breast implant revision doesn’t always mean something went wrong.
One of the most common reasons I see patients years later is simply that their goals have changed. They may want to go bigger, smaller, or choose something that better fits where they are now. Other reasons include an implant rupture or an implant that has shifted over time after pregnancy, weight changes, or aging.
Breast implants aren’t lifetime devices, and your body and preferences aren’t necessarily going to stay the same either. Revision gives us the opportunity to adjust when things change.

Your belly button doesn’t disappear during a tummy tuck, and in most cases, it isn’t a brand-new belly button either.
I keep your belly button attached where it naturally lives, remove the excess abdominal skin, and create a new opening for it. That also gives me the opportunity to refine its size and shape when needed. It’s a small detail, but creating a natural-looking belly button is an important part of a natural-looking tummy tuck.
