There is a sentence some of us say every single day, and never do anything with….
It usually starts with "I'm not okay" or "Can we talk?" Then it gets swallowed before it reaches anyone.
September marks Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, and one of the hardest truths in this field is that a lot of people who are struggling do not look like they are struggling. They still show up to work. They still text back. They still laugh at the right moments.
The warning signs are not always dramatic. Sometimes they are quiet. A person pulling back slightly from plans. A joke about "not being around much longer" that gets brushed off as dark humor. A person who suddenly seems calmer after a long stretch of visible pain.
Checking in does not require the perfect words. It just requires asking, and meaning it.
If you or someone you know is struggling, the 988 Su***de and Crisis Lifeline is available by call or text, any hour of the day.
What is a sentence you wish you had said out loud sooner?
