San Antonio is seeing an increase in reported cases of rabies in wild animals, making it more important than ever to take animal bites, scratches, and potential exposures seriously.
At Full Spectrum Emergency Room & Urgent Care- Hardy Oak , we can evaluate and appropriately treat animal bites, scratches, and lacerations, including cleaning and treating the wound and determining whether additional care is needed.
If rabies exposure is a concern, we can help get you referred for the appropriate rabies vaccine series and follow-up care.
👉 If you’ve been bitten or scratched:
• Wash the area thoroughly with soap and water
• Seek medical evaluation as soon as possible
• Report the animal exposure to the appropriate local authorities (We do this for you)
• Don’t handle or approach unfamiliar or wild animals

You may have seen recent reports about Cyclospora infections. Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that affects the intestines and can cause uncomfortable gastrointestinal symptoms.

Common symptoms may include:
🤢 Diarrhea
🤕 Stomach cramps or abdominal pain
💨 Bloating and gas
🤒 Nausea or vomiting
😴 Fatigue
🌡️ Loss of appetite or weight loss in some cases

Cyclospora is often linked to consuming contaminated food or water. You can help reduce your risk by:

✅ Washing fresh produce thoroughly before eating
✅ Drinking safe, treated water
✅ Practicing good hand hygiene
✅ Avoiding food and water sources that may be contaminated
