Yesterday, a beautiful legacy found a new way to live on. Princess Amelia’s Closet, located on the oncology floor at Methodist Children’s Hospital, was created in memory of Amelia, a courageous little girl whose joyful spirit and love for dressing up left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew her.

Now, that joy is being shared with children throughout our hospital.

Inside Princess Amelia’s Closet, children can choose a princess dress or superhero outfit of their very own. For a little while, hospital rooms and treatments can make way for crowns, capes, imagination and the simple joy of being a kid. Through Princess Amelia’s Travel Closet, princess dresses and superhero outfits travel to other floors throughout Methodist Children’s Hospital so even more children can experience the magic. When a child chooses the one that makes them feel special, it is theirs to keep and take with them.

Made possible through the generosity of the Hope Hits Harder Cancer Foundation, Princess Amelia’s Closet is so much more than a closet. It is a place where courage meets imagination, where smiles can shine during difficult days and where Amelia’s beautiful spirit continues to touch the lives of other children.

Every princess dress chosen. Every superhero cape worn. Every smile in the mirror. In each of those moments, Princess Amelia’s legacy lives on.

Our Methodist Hospital Hill Country home care and hospice care colleagues brought care, connection and a little ’80s flair to last week’s Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce golf tournament.

While golfers enjoyed a day on the course, our team shared cooling towels, hand sanitizer and golf tees — small reminders that comfort and support can show up in many ways.

A successful surgery depends on an entire team working together - including surgical technologists who help prepare the operating room, anticipate what the care team may need and keep the focus on the patient.

For nearly 37 years, Rodney Sheffield has brought that responsibility to every procedure. As a surgical technologist and clinical coordinator for cardiovascular and vascular surgery at Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak, Rodney works closely with doctors, nurses and other members of the surgical team before and during procedures.

Before a patient enters the operating room, surgical technologists help make sure specialized instruments and supplies are ready and work with the care team to prepare for the procedure ahead.

‘It’s about being an advocate for the patient,’ Rodney said. ‘If I see something, I say something.’

During National Surgical Technologists Week, Sept. 20-26, we recognize Rodney and the surgical technologists who help support safe, coordinated surgical care every day.

🤢 Is it a stomach bug, food poisoning or something more serious?

Mild nausea, vomiting and diarrhea may improve with rest and fluids. But some digestive symptoms — like signs of dehydration, blood in your stool, vomit, a high fever or severe stomach pain — shouldn’t be ignored.

Understanding the warning signs can help you know when symptoms may be managed at home and when to seek urgent or emergency care.

Caring for our smallest patients means providing expert, compassionate care while supporting the families beside them every step of the way.

Methodist Hospital | Westover Hills NICU nurse Brook Sifuentes understands that in a deeply personal way. Nine years ago, she was a NICU mom after her daughter, Autumn, was born at 33 weeks. Today, she draws on that experience to provide compassionate care to babies and families in our NICU.

In recognition of and Neonatal Nurses Week, FOX San Antonio shares Brook’s story and the personal journey that led her to NICU nursing. Read more:

After her premature daughter spent weeks in the NICU, San Antonio mom Brook Sifuentes returned to the unit as a nurse at Methodist Hospital Westover Hills. Her full circle journey is spotlighted for NICU Awareness Month.

Methodist Hospital | Westover Hills is taking its expertise beyond the walls of the hospital! We recently partnered with the American Heart Association to provide stroke education to members of the Mays Family YMCA at Potranco.

During our event, our experts shared tips on stroke prevention, warning signs, and why acting quickly can make all the difference. When looking for stroke symptoms, one important reminder is to BE FAST:

B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination

E – Eyes: Sudden vision changes

F – Face: Facial drooping or uneven smile

A – Arms: Arm weakness or numbness

S – Speech: Slurred or difficult speech

T – Time: Call 911 immediately

We're proud to partner with organizations like the YMCA and the American Heart Association to help our community recognize the signs of stroke and know when every second counts.
