Reynaldo, 58, enjoys spending time with his family and playing basketball. In his spare time, he loves playing darts and going fishing.
A few days before his hospital admission, Reynaldo began experiencing shortness of breath, weakness, and back pain. He came to the emergency room for help and was found to be in acute on chronic respiratory failure. He required intubation in the emergency department to support his breathing. At the time, he was using 2 liters of oxygen at home. He was started on intravenous antibiotics and sedative medications to stabilize his condition.
On September 3, 2025, Reynaldo was transferred to Kindred Hospital San Antonio Central for specialized care and ventilator weaning. An interdisciplinary team—including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and rehabilitation specialists—developed a treatment plan to help him recover.
During his stay, Reynaldo received intravenous antibiotics, respiratory support, and personalized therapy to help him regain strength and function. With consistent care and determination, he improved enough to be discharged on September 23, 2025, to an Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) to continue his recovery.
Reynaldo’s journey shows how teamwork, advanced medical care, and his own perseverance helped him overcome a serious respiratory illness and take the next steps toward independence.
