For 60 years, CHCS has been the backbone of behavioral health care in Bexar County, providing mental health, substance use and IDD services to our neighbors.

Here’s the reality: Bexar County has 2.1 million residents and gets $7.7M in local funding. Travis County has 1.4 million residents and gets $56M. That means Travis invests over 7x more per resident, even with fewer people to serve.

We’ve leveraged $60M in state funding, but there’s still a $15 million gap. Without local funding support, care for 37,000+ Bexar County adults and children could be reduced.

Every voice helps protect this system. Here’s what you can do:
đźź  Connect with Bexar County elected representatives and encourage them to support CHCS
đź©·Share our mission and the impact of our services with your network
🟢 Connect interested community partners with the Center for Health Care Services Foundation to continue the conversation

This American Adventure Month, we’re inspired by Shawn, one of our Crisis Response Clinicians at the Josephine Recovery Clinic, who took to the waters on an Alaskan cruise to escape the San Antonio heat. 🌊❄️

Taking time to unwind and explore new places is crucial for mental health. Adventures like Shawn's not only refresh our minds but also provide a much-needed boost to our well-being.

Whether it's a cruise, a hike, or a simple day trip, stepping away from our daily routines can help reduce stress, spark creativity, and improve our overall mood.

This August, let’s prioritize our mental health by making time for adventures, big or small.

Share your summer adventure stories or plans in the comments below! 🌟

It's National Health Center Week 🎉and we're taking a moment to celebrate what community health really means.

For nearly 60 years, CHCS has been building innovative care right here in Bexar County, meeting people where they are with mental health, substance use and IDD services all under one roof.

This week we’re celebrating our staff, our patients and everyone who makes access to care possible.

Throwback Thursday

Happy World Intern Day! We’re taking a trip back to summer 2024, when we welcomed our very first group of non-clinical interns to The Center family.

Since then we’ve had many more intern classes join our team, each one bringing fresh energy and new perspectives while gaining real world experience in the behavioral health field.

Interested in interning with us? We’re always looking for the next group of future leaders to join our mission. Email [email protected] to learn more.

When The Devil Wears Prada 2 hit theaters, we borrowed one of cinema’s most iconic monologues to remind everyone that the green ribbon isn’t “just green.”

The conversation doesn’t end with the credits.

Mental health deserves to be seen, understood, and prioritized every day, not just during Mental Health Awareness Month.

Because it’s never been just a ribbon.

đź’š

You think it’s just green.

In the world of The Devil Wears Prada, color meant something.

In our world, it means even more.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, the green ribbon stands for every person who has fought to be seen, to be heard, and to receive care.

And with The Devil Wears Prada 2 generating buzz, we’re reminded, what seems simple often carries a much deeper story.

We asked our staff: “If your mental health was a brand, what would it be?”

Five different answers, five different truths:

🧊 Yeti: “Being tough doesn’t mean carrying everything alone”
👟 Nike: “Just do it. Just go, just do it”
🍀 Lucky Charms: “There’s a lot of luck and favor and blessed opportunities”
🛍️ Walmart: “Live better than yesterday and just focus on the future”
👜 Gucci: “I live a luxurious life serving my community, in mental health, for right now”

Five staff, five brands, all the same job: showing up for this community every day.
