The 5-4-3-2-1 Five Senses Technique is discreet way to dial down anxiety ANYWHERE. Definitely a good trick to know. Go ahead and practice while your feeling OK, so you feel confident trying this out when your anxiety is ratcheting up.
Does it really work? Researchers recently demonstrated that it significantly reduced testing anxiety in nursing students (Scott et al., 2025). Also, it is commonly used in counseling and mindfulness settings with positive results.
