Saving lives through continued growth.

Last week, members of our TOSA team went through training on how to use innovative technology that could help save more lives.
Paragonix technology allows kidneys to be placed in a Kidney Vault, which would allow these precious gifts to travel longer distances to those waiting for a transplant.
Advancements in organ donation mean more organs can be transplanted, and more lives can be saved.

This past Saturday, our Donor Family Services team hosted our quarterly workshops in San Antonio and McAllen, where donor families came together to honor the lives and legacies of their loved ones through rock and wind chime painting, and shared remembrance.

Thank you to every family who joined us for this special time of healing and hope. Your loved oneโ€™s legacy continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of organ donation.

August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM) โ€“ a collaborative effort to save lives and improve the quality of life for diverse communities by fostering a positive culture around organ, eye and tissue donation.
Why is NMDAM needed? 60% of patients on the national transplant waiting list are from multicultural communities. The need for donation and transplant is more pronounced in minority communities where disproportionately higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease contribute to organ failure, especially kidney failure. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š
NMDAM is a collaborative effort of the National Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation Multicultural Action Group (NMAG)."

Joel G. received a kidney transplant from Dr. Hitchman in 2021. To celebrate their fifth kidney annivrsary, he decided to surprise her at her lab.

โ€œItโ€™s his kidney. Clearly, it was always meant for him," said Hitchman. "I am always so grateful to see him and grateful for his friendship."
