May was EXTRA snuggly in the NICU and Mother-Baby Unit as we celebrated our two-week Kangaroo-care-a-thon! Kangaroo care is a special method of holding a baby skin-to-skin, similar to how kangaroos hold their young in a pouch!
For moms, it promotes bonding, boosts breast milk production, reduces anxiety, and enhances their ability to understand their baby's cues. Dads also experience bonding benefits, stress relief, and a sense of protectiveness.
In total, we logged over 2,000 minutes of Skin-to-Skin during the two-week celebration!

It's been 27 years since the Spurs and the Knicks last met in the NBA Finals πŸ€.
If you remember watching that 1999 series live, it might be time for a health risk assessment. πŸ˜‰
Knowing your risk for strokes, cancer, diabetes, or other high-risk diseases can help keep you in the game for years to come. A quick assessment can help you stay championship-ready.
Because unlike the Finals, your health shouldn't come down to the last second. πŸ’œπŸ©Ί

We're proud to celebrate the graduation of our third Project SEARCH cohort at our Alamo Heights facility.

Over the past year, these dedicated interns trained across various hospital departments, gaining invaluable skills that open doors to meaningful careers. During the ceremony, we were also honored to bless the hands of these graduates as they begin the next chapter of their journeys in the workforce and in service to others.

Congrats to all our graduates! Their hard work and growth inspire us all.

In honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are celebrating saints like Saint Paul Miki, the Patron Saint of Japan and one of the first native Japanese Christians whose faith endured even in the face of persecution.

As a Jesuit seminarian and gifted preacher, Paul Miki boldly shared the Gospel at a time when Christianity was outlawed in Japan. In 1597, he and 25 companions were arrested and crucified for their faith. From the cross, Paul continued to preach, stating just before his death β€œAfter Christ’s example, I forgive my persecutors. I do not hate them. I ask God to have pity on all, and I hope my blood will fall on my fellow men as a fruitful rain.” His courage and unwavering trust in God helped sustain the Catholic faith in Japan for generations. St. Paul Miki reminds us that even in the most difficult moments, faith, mercy and hope can leave a lasting impact.

At 34, Cami Tuttle, a wife, mother of three and former nurse, knew the signs of a stroke, but never thought it would happen to her.

Her first symptoms came in the middle of the night and quickly resolved. Trusting her instincts, Cami contacted her CHRISTUS Trinity clinic primary care physician in San Marcos, Dr. Mariel Bagley. Dr. Bagley identified subtle warning signs and immediately sent her to the emergency room, where teams confirmed she had a stroke, but there were still questions.

After other symptoms arose, Cami was transferred to CHRISTUS Westover Hills, where specialists used advanced imaging to review her scans before she arrived, allowing the neurology team to prepare for immediate treatment. She was diagnosed with a hemorrhagic stroke caused by a micro aneurysm and underwent a successful procedure.

From emergency care to advanced neurologic treatment, every step of Cami’s journey across CHRISTUS facilities was connected through coordinated, compassionate care.

Many assume pain management depends on medications, yet Interventional Pain Specialist Jennifer Erian focuses on solutions that target the source of pain. In the context of the opioid crisis, she avoids masking symptoms when a treatable cause can be addressed with procedures, rehabilitation, and coordinated care. She advises patients seeking a quick fix to be patient and willing to put forth the effort. Other misconceptions about pain management she sees revolve around physical therapy, advanced procedures, and changing medication, as patients sometimes push back because they view these steps as inconvenient or intimidating. Dr. Erian explains that those who commit quickly realize how effective these treatments are and can return to a life without chronic or debilitating pain sooner.
