Cousins -
It is with a heavy heart that we come to you again to share the passing of our dear cousin JJ (Joe Jesse Jr) Zavala.
JJ joined CIDA in 2007 and for several years served as CIDA's Property Manager. You could always count on JJ to be at every event with whatever the event called for--flags, banners, stands, etc. Here JJ carried the portrait of Our Lady of Candelaria during one of her feast day masses held at Mission Concepcion. JJ's daughter shares his funeral details below and invites all CIDA members who knew her father to visit and pay their respects to her wonderful father.
JJ passed on July 30, 2026. He was born on August 21, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, to Joe J. Zavala and Florence Delgado. He dedicated 38 years of service as a San Antonio Police Officer. He also proudly served his country in both the United States Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Master Sergeant (E-7), and the United States Army Reserves, retiring as a Private First Class (E-3).
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana Zavala; his four children, Jennifer Delgado (Raul Delgado), Joe Jesse Zavala III (Aisha Zavala), Jonathan Zavala, and Stephanie Zavala; six grandchildren; his brother, Jeffrey Zavala; and his sister, Lacey McCloud (Sandra).
