Fevers can be scary for parents, but in most cases, a fever is the bodyโs natural response to infection and can actually help the immune system fight off viruses more effectively.
The goal of treating a fever is usually not to โstopโ the fever completely, but to help your child feel more comfortable. Take a moment to read over our helpful reminders.
Please seek urgent care or go to the ER if your child is unresponsive, inconsolable, has a fever above 105 that is not coming down with medication and a lukewarm bath, or is an infant younger than 1 to 2 months old with a temperature of 100.5ยฐF or higher.
Other than during influenza season when fever should be evaluated after 24 hours, routine evaluation of fever should be initiated for more than 72 hours of fever or if your child has other concerning symptoms.
