💡 Fun Fact Friday + PCOS Awareness Month!

PCOS is about so much more than irregular periods. It’s a hormonal and metabolic condition that can affect your skin, hair, fertility, mood, weight, and blood sugar.

One thing many women don’t realize? Insulin resistance is very common with PCOS—even in women who aren’t overweight or obese.

Symptoms can include irregular cycles, acne, unwanted hair growth, thinning scalp hair, difficulty managing weight, and fertility concerns—and you don’t have to have every symptom or ovarian cysts to have PCOS.

If you’ve been wondering whether PCOS could be part of what you’re experiencing, let’s take a closer look. We can evaluate the whole picture and create a plan that makes sense for you. 💚

😴 You slept 8 hours…but did you actually rest?

Sleep is just as important to your health as nutrition and exercise—and sometimes it’s the piece we overlook the most.

Poor-quality sleep has been associated with increased risk of insulin resistance, weight gain, high blood pressure, heart disease, depression/anxiety, and cognitive problems. It can also affect your appetite, cravings, mood, energy, focus, and recovery.

And here’s the important part: sleeping through the night doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting restorative sleep.

Signs your sleep may not be as restful as you think:
• Waking up tired after a full night
• Daytime sleepiness or brain fog
• Morning headaches or dry mouth
• Increased hunger or cravings
• Irritability or mood changes
• Relying heavily on caffeine
• Snoring, gasping, or choking during sleep
• Difficulty losing weight despite your efforts

Nutrition matters. Exercise matters. But sleep deserves a seat at the table, too. 🌿

If you’re doing “everything right” but still don’t feel your best, it may be worth looking at how well you’re actually sleeping—not just how many hours you’re in bed.

You’ve put in the work. Your condition is well controlled, your medication is working, and you’re feeling good. Then suddenly… 0 refills remaining. 💊

Running out of medication shouldn’t unnecessarily disrupt the progress you’ve worked hard to achieve.

With Direct Primary Care, ongoing medication management is part of the relationship—refills, monitoring, labs when needed, and follow-up to help keep your care on track.

Because staying well deserves just as much attention as getting well. 🌿

🌙 Fun Fact Friday: HRT Edition

If you’re waking up at 2 or 3 AM staring at the ceiling—but you’re not drenched in sweat—you might not think hormones have anything to do with it.

They can. 👀

During perimenopause and menopause, changing estrogen and progesterone levels can affect sleep quality, nighttime awakenings, and how rested you feel the next morning—even without obvious night sweats.

And poor sleep doesn’t stay in the bedroom. Over time, it can affect your mood, energy, appetite, cravings, concentration, and overall quality of life.

So if you’ve found yourself saying:

“I fall asleep fine, but I can’t stay asleep.”
“I wake up exhausted even after 8 hours.”
“I’ve just become a terrible sleeper.”

…don’t automatically write it off as stress or getting older.

There are many reasons for disrupted sleep, so hormones aren’t always the answer. But if sleep changes showed up alongside other perimenopause symptoms, they’re absolutely worth discussing as part of the bigger picture.

💚 You deserve more than being told to just “deal with it.”

If you’re wondering whether perimenopause or menopause could be contributing to how you feel, I offer individualized HRT evaluations via telemedicine.

You know that feeling when you wake up and immediately think… “Oh no. I have a UTI.” 😩

Now comes the part nobody has time for: finding an appointment, driving to urgent care, sitting in a waiting room, paying the visit fee… all while feeling miserable.

This is exactly where Direct Primary Care can make life easier. 💚

As an Elevate Wellness member, you can message me directly. For concerns that can safely be managed through telemedicine, I can evaluate your symptoms, order urine testing when appropriate, send treatment to your pharmacy if indicated, and follow up with you afterward.

And UTIs are just one example. Pink eye, rashes, sinus symptoms, medication questions, yeast infections, minor illnesses, chronic-condition follow-ups—the goal is simple:

When you need primary care, you actually have access to your primary care provider.

No copay every time you need me. No automatically heading to urgent care because your P*P can’t see you for two weeks.

Just convenient, personalized primary care for $50/month.

🥚 “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”

We’ve all heard it—but if you’re dealing with insulin resistance, what you eat for breakfast may matter even more than simply eating breakfast.

Starting the day with cereal, pastries, juice, sweetened coffee, or other refined carbs can send blood sugar up quickly…and leave you hungry, tired, and reaching for something else a few hours later.

Instead, try building your first meal around:

🥚 Protein — eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, protein shake
🥑 Fiber — avocado, berries, chia/flax, vegetables
🥜 Healthy fats — nuts, seeds, avocado, olive oil
🍓 Minimally processed carbs when included

A protein- and fiber-forward meal can help slow the glucose rise, improve fullness, and make blood sugar easier to manage.

And no—you don’t necessarily have to eat the second you wake up. 😉 The bigger takeaway is to be intentional about what you break your fast with.

If you’re struggling with weight, cravings, energy crashes, prediabetes, or insulin resistance, sometimes we need to look beyond “eat less and exercise more” and figure out what’s actually happening metabolically.

That’s where personalized primary care can make a difference. 🌿

Sunday reset. 🤍

Before the schedules, appointments, practices, work, laundry, and everything else starts again tomorrow… a little reminder:

You don’t have to have the whole week figured out today.

Take a minute to be thankful for where you are. Let go of the things you can’t control. Rest your body. Clear your mind. And when tomorrow comes, just focus on the next right thing.

There’s something powerful about starting a new week from a place of gratitude instead of pressure. 🌿

Here’s to walking into this week with a little more peace, purpose, and grace. 🤍

Most women hear about HRT because of hot flashes and night sweats… but estrogen affects so much more than temperature control. 💡

❤️ Heart: Estrogen influences cardiovascular health, and when HRT is started matters. HRT isn’t prescribed specifically to prevent heart disease, but cardiovascular health is an important part of the conversation.

🦴 Bones: This one is well established. Estrogen helps protect bone density, and hormone therapy can prevent bone loss and reduce fracture risk.

🧠 Brain: This is where the research gets really interesting. Some observational studies have found an association between midlife HRT and lower rates of dementia, although we don’t yet have enough evidence to prescribe HRT specifically for dementia prevention.

The takeaway? HRT is about much more than treating a few uncomfortable symptoms. It’s a personalized decision that should consider your symptoms, age, health history, risk factors, and where you are in the menopause transition.

If you’ve been wondering whether HRT might be right for you, you don’t have to figure it out on your own. I’d be happy to sit down with you, look at the whole picture, and talk through your options. 🤍

This is what Direct Primary Care looks like in real life. 💚

You wake up feeling sick. Instead of trying to find an urgent care, sitting in a waiting room, or wondering how much the visit will cost, you simply message your provider.

For many concerns that can be safely managed by telemedicine, we can evaluate what’s going on, talk through a plan, and get you taken care of—all from home.

That’s one of my favorite things about DPC: healthcare fits into your life instead of taking over your day.

No copay. No rushed visit. Just direct access to a provider who knows you. 🌿

Protein is one of the things I talk about all the time when it comes to weight loss—and for good reason. 🤍

When you’re losing weight, the goal isn’t just to make the number on the scale go down. We want to lose fat while protecting as much muscle as possible.

Getting enough protein can help:
✨ Preserve lean muscle
✨ Keep you fuller longer
✨ Support recovery and strength
✨ Make maintaining your weight loss easier long-term

And if you’re using a GLP-1 medication, protein becomes even more important since your appetite may be significantly reduced.

You don’t have to eat perfectly. Start simple: make protein the priority at each meal, then build the rest of your plate around it.

🌿 Need help creating a weight-loss plan that actually fits your life? That’s exactly what I’m here for.
