Feeling burned out on diabetes? The endless checks, worries, highs/lows, and "perfect" management can lead to diabetes burnout, the emotional and physical exhaustion that's super common (up to 1 in 5 people with T1D/T2D).
Here’s some helpful tips to improve your outlook:
• Talk it out — Share feelings with your doctor, educator, or therapist. They can help problem-solve & refer support.
• Connect with other diabetics — Join peer groups (online communities, forums, or local meetups).
• Break it down — Do one thing at a time instead of overwhelming yourself. Set small, realistic goals.
• Be kind to numbers — View blood sugars as info, not judgment. Focus on effort, not perfection.
• Prioritize self-care basics — Get enough sleep, move your body (even lightly—it boosts mood fast), and step away from devices/tech alarms occasionally.
• Seek cost/barrier help — Ask about assistance programs for meds/supplies if that's adding stress.
• Celebrate wins — Notice progress, no matter how small.
Burnout is temporary. Remember to reach out for support!
